new...still (Christmas food tips pls!!)

hi,

i've been registered on here a few weeks now but i'm so busy i've hardly had time to look around and acclimatise! hope everyone is doing well and working hard. i've finally decided to bite the bullet and put my money, litterally, where my mouth is - i'm going to go along to a boot-camp sometime in the new year, which will hopefully put me on the right track. it's an expensive gamble, especially as lots of people say they lose will power when they return home, but i'm hoping it'll at least instill some good eating behavior on me, and maybe even start to address my relationship will food. I'm based in england so going to see if i can find one here as the air fare over to the us/canadian ones will push my budget beyond managable - let me know if anyone has any suggestions. in the meantime, how are people getting ready for xmas - how do you enjoy the festivities and indulge in the nice treats without it turning into a weight gain exercise?! all help and advice GREATLY appreciated! S x

I don't indulge. Eat lean meats, vegetables, and complex carbs during the holiday season, like you should at all times.

People have far too great a sense of entitlement to food. If you are obese/overweight and it's an issue, you don't get the treats until you reach your goal, and even then you still only get such things in moderation.

Why do you NEED a boot-camp to kick your ass? Why can't the ass-kicking come from within yourself? You may be setting yourself up so that someone else or some thing OUTSIDE OF YOU is the SOURCE of the weight-loss, so that when you no longer are engaged in the boot-camp then the source of your weight-loss is gone. If you haven't paid in yet, I wouldn't do it.

Similar, but a little different would be getting a personal trainer. You can get one for about $35 per session here in Indianapolis, IN. Might be expensive in NYC or England or whatnot. They could set you up with a workout plan that you can follow and then you can refresh or add in new exercises every week or two...? You could also consult with a nutritionist.

I just don't think you need someone to get in your face about your eating and workouts. You KNOW what you're doing "wrong". You don't even need to beat yourself up about it. Why not just make the commitment to it (today, right now), agree to all the pain & expenses & extra time it takes, and then remind yourself on a daily basis to make the "right" choices? Use various reminders: a nutrition and workout diary that you keep in your purse, a rubberband on your wrist (or a special necklace), etc.

You don't NEED someone else to make that commitment for yourself. You don't NEED to isolate yourself at a bootcamp to get the job done. You are a committed and responsible person. Just be it.
