Rep Power: 0 | | New person on board He everyone! My name is tammy and I am new to this website. I am 27 year old married mom of 2 boys who needs to lose weight. I've gained alot over the years with my 2 sons, and I am ready for it to be gone. I am 5'3" and weigh 230lbs. I've been chubby all my life, but never this big. I'm trying to start out slow because before i've tried losing weight and i guess i jumped into it to fast and fell right back into the same old habits. My husband is also over weight, but I can't get him to join me on this weight loss journey. And ideas on how to get him on? My hardest struggles is sodas, eating out and night time eating. Anybody with the same situation as mine or with any ideas please fell free to let me know... Thanks . |

Welcome to the board. I am also new to this forum and am just starting on the difficult path to get healthy. I agree with you that taking slow might be a good idea, I have found that tackling different health problems one by one is alot easier than just completely changing lifestyles which might throw the body into a complete state of shock.
If you can get your husband to join you I can imagine it will be alot easier getting through it for both of you when you have each others support and comfort along the way. I know at least for me, it will be alot easier going through the exercised and staying faithful to diets if I had a partner to keep me in check. If I was in your place I will probably try to let him feel that the only way I can go through it is with him, so good luck with that.
Night time eating is also one of my problems. I find myself eating minutes before I sleep quite often. I have also noticed that when I eat late at night that I am more likely to have a larger apetite and more of a chance to overeat during the next day. I have found that drinking tea about half an hour before I usually eat at night helps me control my apetite and I can go to sleep with an empty stomach alot easier. Not sure if it will work for you, but I suppose it is worth a try.
Good luck on your weight loss and hopefully we will hear from you again.

Rep Power: 12 | | hello and welcome! my starting weight was also 230 lbs....hate that number!! Well i have lost 10 lbs so far this month!! Anywho..i'm not so sure how your going to get him to do this with you, since hes not ready then it might not be a good idea to beg him, being that he might no be as sucessful as if his mind was set to do this! maybe when he sees that your doing good, it might make him want to change his life! I would ask him to supposrt you though!! I to am a night snacker..lol...so when i get these cravings i try to eat some fruit or the 100 cal pk. pop corn which helps alot. please feel free to stop by my diary! |

Rep Power: 0 | | Hi, welcome to the forum! I hope that you have great success and reach the goals that you set for yourself. For your husband, unfortunately if he doesn't want to do it, than he probably won't. But, if you start and he sees your results, maybe that will be the motivation that he needs?
Have a great day and good luck |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Yes, it is very difficult, if not impossible, to motivate someone else to lose weight. I'm just now getting to the point where I recognize that I have to do this for me, so we each have to come to that realization on our own. Not that we can't help, but until he makes that decision himself, you might end up pushing him in the opposite direction if you aren't careful. But I agree with the others who suggested setting a good example is the best way to motivate him.
Best wishes on your journey - you'll have support here no matter what! |

Rep Power: 6 | | | I am new too...been crash dieting forever. I just starting watching my diet and exercise this week. I think this time I am taking it seriously. My boyfriend is always taking me out to eat and it is hard to stay on a diet and exercise plan. I put things in a different perspective now.....he was hopitalized for a week. He is diabetic and had his gallbladder removed. When he went into the hospital his blood sugar was 1300. He almost could have died or went into a coma. He now has to be on a diet. This week I have caught him eating stuff he shouldnt. You have to treat men like kids. You have to prepare their meals. Every morning I make him a smoothie. He really likes it. He thinks I am doing this to take care of him. Well I am, to my benefit. If I feed him what I eat, and not make it seem like a diet he will be satisfied. I threw away all his ice cream, cookies, chips and ect...while he was in the hospital. I went to the store and stocked up on healthy stuff. He liked to stuff his face, and now he is eating in moderation. Wish me luck, I think I am on to something. |

Rep Power: 9 | | Hey,welcome to the forums! I was 226 when reality slapped me in the face.
slow and steady is the best way to go, although the majority of people wishing to lose weight really want to just drop it off as quickly as possible. I find the slower you lose it, the longer it'll stay off. It takes around 28 days to get into a regular routine, so if you can stick it out for about a month, then it'll be alot easier. :]
Good luck, and if you ever need support, feel free to message myself or, i'm sure, many other members would be willing to help you and encourage you along. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
