New Here, need major inspiration...

Hey everyone! I have been struggling with my weight after having 2 kids. My son is only 5 months old and my family keeps telling me that I need to give myself time to heal and then start losing weight, but I'm TIRED OF EXCUSES! I want to get this weight off NOW! I have started eating more veggies. Before, I wouldn't even TOUCH brocolli or spinach and a lot more veggies, but now I LOVE brocolli and spinach. I have slowly tried new veggies to get myself to like them and so far I have succeeded. My husband was diagnosed with cancer early this year and we have gotten through the majority of that. He had surgery and awaits radiation. He decided he wants to lose weight, but he won't stick to it. I constantly try to get him to eat better, but he always turns it down. Any suggestions on making this easier for him? I have my mind set that I am going to lose weight! I probably weigh 210 lbs.. the reason I say probably is because I'm so ashamed, I don't even want to step on a scale! I get so depressed when I look at myself! Most people will say that I don't look like I weigh that much, but I know I do. I am only 5' 6" and I feel that I am going down a path in my life that I don't want to travel. I want to have tons of energy and be able to live a long healthy life. I am only 22 so I think it would be easier for me to change now rather than wait. I wear a size 16-18 and I want to cut that in half if not more! My goal is to lose 80 lbs. I think I have started out on the right foot. I started eating less and drinking a lot more water. I started eating more veggies and not indulging just because I'm bored. Please help with other tips that you all have found helpful. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Amanda

Smile Change your mindset.

Hi Amanda,

Sounds like you are on the way to getting your mind in the right place. First though, you don't mention anything about exercise, that is very important. If you are not doing so already, get out and walk, take your kids with you every day, go to the park, play with them, kids definitely get you more active.

Another exercise that is very good is the rebounder or mini-trampoline. It is very good for you. There are lot of sites that tell you the benefits. Do not go cheap when purchasing a rebounder, you need to pay at least $200 and up as quality is important when exercising with a rebounder. It is also very beneficial for certain diseases as well. The important things is to start moving.

Now back to the mindset. You need to focus your thoughts not on losing weight but on how you will look and feel once you lose the weight. Here is what I suggest. Write down a date, and then express how grateful you are now that you enjoy a healthy, energetic, slender body. Spend more time looking at slender pictures of yourself than looking in the mirror. Doing so will help your sub-conscious mind be in harmony with the results you are looking for. Heck, you might even manipulate the scale to show the number you want everytime you step on it. It could actually help your sub-conscious mind believe it is true and then help you desire the right foods or lead you to the right "weight loss" program.

Whatever you decide to do focus on the result you want not on what you weigh right now. Believe, feel and be grateful for your success in reaching your goal as if you are already there.

Good Luck...I know you can do it!

Terry R.

Thank you for your kind words.. I was afraid I had scared everyone.. I mean heck.. I got 53 views and 1 reply.. but you mentioned exercise.. I always say, "I don't have time" or "It's too cold to get the kids out", but what I really need to do is just be honest with myself! Thanks for the inspiration!!! You are awesome!

Hi and welcome,

As far as your hubby, you can't make him do what he doesn't want to do. Even though it would be benificial to his health. I think the best you can do for now is lead by example. If he sees you having success, perhaps he'll become more motivated. Also, if you cook healthy things for him, he will probably eat it (I hope instead of running out to KFC).

And for you, why do you need time to heal? Did you have a c-section? If not, there is no reason to wait. So start excersising. I know with a small child it can be hard. I used to use DVD excersise tapes when my kids were smaller, and get some dumbells as well.

As far as eating, you sound like you're off to a good start. You should keep track of your calories too. A site that everyone uses is fitday.com. This way, you can see exactly how much (or how little) you are intaking everyday.

No, I didn't have a c-section. My MIL always says that though.. I will complain about my weight and she always says that I need to give myself time to heal.. I tell her my child is over 2 months old.. I'm healed.. I'm not putting the blame on her, it's all my fault, but at the same time.. I feel like her excuses don't help me.. Anyway.. thanks for the inspiration. I am going to do my best to fit exercise somewhere in my daily routine.
