Arrow Hey All

I'm new.

I'll cut to the chase...

I've always been somewhat overweight since I was in 4th grade or so. I really hit my peak in high school. I don't really have an excuse for my weight gain besides the fact that I'm lazy. I've always been active until I graduated high school and stopped playing volleyball year round. Since then my weight has been fluxuating and I've hit my highest and I swear I'll never go any higher. I'm done. This is my peak and I am fed up with seeing those numbers on the scale.

I have to say I feel like a hypocrite as well. I have been working for a health club for 5 years now and I work at a chiropractic office with a fitness center as well. I have two free gym memberships and I don't even use them. I guess I came here for encouragement. I need someone to tell me to get off my lazy ass and go workout and that's why I am turning to this forum cause the people around me haven't helped me at all.

Let me hear it! Please

I've got a goal of losing 100 pounds in one year from today. Anything you guys can do for me would be appreciated and I will graciously return the favor.

Here's a photo so you can put a face with my username.

You can do it!

You can do it girl! I also used to play volleyball year round and just stopped about 2 years ago. It is hard to get on track when you don't have a team to encourage you and coach to make sure you are working hard. I fell into that same trap. I just realized 2 weeks ago that I was at my highest weight and something had to change. The hardest part for me was just going to the gym that first time. Once you are there it is not so bad.

Maybe you could get some motivation by thinking about helping the others you work with and for. When the people come in to the health club they look up to the people that work there and if you lost weight maybe you would be motivating and encouraging others as well. I recently found a forum on this site with challenges so I am going to try that out for motivation. Maybe since I will have a team dependent on me again I will work hard

Volleyball is the only thing I really miss about high school. I've thought about going back to help out my high school with their current team, but I would really feel like a fool walking in there at my highest weight. I am going to take that bit of advice though and think about working from a different perspective. Thanks for the encouragement. Where can I find this challenge forum you speak of!? I'm interested.

I miss volleyball too... There are not many places to play around my area so I decided to take up tennis. I figure I can play it for the rest of my life unlike volleyball and there are so many courts and places to play.

The challenge I am talking about is the Memorial day challenge under the category "club challenges" Just read up on it and it will tell you what to do. It seems like a good way to help motivate people and it starts on Monday. I am looking forward to it! Good luck on your weight loss journey, you have taken the first step!

Welcome to the boards!

I too played volleyball in school . . and loved it! It's so great when you find a way to burn calories and it dosnt feel like "work"- that you actually enjoy it.

I'm not a huge fan of exercise myself, but know how important it is to get/stay healthy. I have joined a gym 2-3 times, but its so hard to dedicate the time with my schedule. Currently I workout at home in the mornings before I go to work. For myself, I find that getting up and on the ski machine is harder than the workout itself. BUt I have also found, that once you make it a habit its a lot easier and your body begins to miss it if you don't do it regularly.

My suggestions would be to start off slow. Promise yourself to go for a 20 min walk 3x a week and build on. You could also set a goal for yourself that after you lose "x" amount of pounds, you could volleyball again. There should be some local rec centers where you could join.

Good luck on your journey!
