Just an introduction!

Hello my name's Megan, and I've just joined this forum

I'm not classed as 'over-weight' but I'm currently at the top-end of my healthy BMI range, and would like to be my pre-university weight again, which was in my lower healthy BMI range.

I'm 21 now, and have put on about 20 - 28lb's since i started university nearly 3 years ago. I put this mainly down to alcohol and excessively eating carbohydrates such as bread and anything made from potato's (chips, crips, mash, baked potatoes, potato wedges....), and comfort eating things like chocolate when I've been feeling stressed. My diet has been sufficiently lacking in fruit and veg too.

I've also been suffering depression the past 2 years, and when I started university I used to go to the gym regularly. But since my mental health declined, so did my motivation to keep active and I started to hybernate a lot and feel very lethargic.

I gave up alcohol over 5 weeks ago (on my doctor's advice), and am currently improving my diet by cutting down on carbs and increasing the veg and protein. I still need to get back into exercise, but I'm taking it one step at a time

Anyway, I joined this forum to help keep me motivated, and to see what interesting tips and ideas other members have!

Welcome! Having done battle with depression myself, I know it's hard to exercise when depressed...but if you can force yourself to do it, it will improve your depression. Also, since alcohol is a depressant, stopping your consumption of alcohol should help improve your mood considerably.
