Hello everyone,

I joined this community with hopes to have somewhere to go when I feel like falling off the active band wagon if you know what I mean. So far I have found so much useful information and inspiration. It's always nice to know your not the only one in this uphill battle.

I have always 'thicker bones' or so they call it. I have always been the muscular type mainly because of skating and hockey. I have never had that 'thin' body and I'm ok with that. What I'm not ok with is starting to gain fat. After I stopped playing college hockey my body just couldn't seem to handle it. I was working out 3 hrs a day 1 hr off ice weight lifting and cardio training, then 2 hrs on ice half high intensity the other was drills. My body is so used to the activity that within a week of being done season my body just didn't like it. Me personally I just enjoyed being able to give my body a rest. For the first time since i was like 4 my body wasn't always on the go.. wasn't always training. So I guess I splurged so to speak and became a lazy bum.

Now school is done, the college days are over and I moved 30 hrs away from all family, friends, and fiance. I am now situated in calgary and for a while the only place my old roommate would take me would be the pub. Bad place to just mingle right, your either eating fried food or drinking. I was good some days though I just would drink water with lemon in it but still I was in a bad siatuation. I would stay at home (roommate would be working non stop) So here I was in this new huge city and no where to go and not a clue of my surroundings.

I didn't like how lazy I was feeling nor was I happy. I bought a bike and started biking 2 miles to work. That was a start. Then I decided to move out. Mind you I've only been in my new place for 2 weeks but already I can feel a turn around. The community we are situated in is beautiful with a biking/ running path right behind the condos that goes right along the river (so beautiful) My roommate also has work out dvd's that I've just started to use. It uses free weights, step ups etc. So far so good I guess

I want to get into the running to and will try to find a healthy medium.

I hope to meet some great people here and would love to hear from you any time. I started a diary here if you care to read at the following link

Take care everyone

Amanda

Hi Amanda...first off, as I was reading I saw "ice weight lifting." I know that now that I read wrong and it was " 1 hour off ice... weight lifting and cardio..." but I read it "1 hr. off Ice Weight Lifting.." I am from Southern Louisiana and so I'm thinking...wow, never heard of that. *Imagining myself going to the gas station and grabbing two bags of Ice so I can go home to use them as weights. Then I though, "hmm, not a bad idea in the heat...it'll melt as I'm pumping ice and cool me off.." Then I re-read it. Woops! hahaha!

Anyway! Welcome to the forum! I haven't read your diary yet but it's a great place to start. You sound like you have a great plan down and I can't wait to read about your progress. You'll get there in no time! See you around!

~Kristi
