Lightbulb Trying to Loose weight and quit smoking..

Hi Guys,
Ive never done this whole forum thing before so I thought I would give it a shot to get some support going. I am trying to loose 10 kg for summer (I live in Aussie) and really really really want to quit smoking at the same time. I think I have gone crazy, but hopefully they may complement eachother (excersise instead of smoke). So if there is anyone out there in a similar position (trying to go cold turky, start fresh, bit of a radical move I say) it would be great to hear how your going or if you have ne tips. 8 Weeks till my annual summer holiday, the clock is ticking. Hope you are all having a great Day

Leddy..

not me personally, but my dad did that ... mostly because the first time he went cold turkey he ate junk food non-stop. He found that exercise helped a lot because it kept him easily distracted.

Hi Leddy 123, good luck on trying to stop smoking, sorry I dont smoke so I cant help you there but I usually compare peoples smoking addiction to my junk food addiction which is so hard to break. Lately when I have thought about eating I will go for a walk or ring someone just anything instead of eating maybe this will work. I also live in Australia and want to lose 10kgs. Well its more like 14 now as I have started putting on weight again. But I want to lose it for the summer also. So if I start losing it I will let you know how.

Hi Leddy 123. I can sympathize with you. I quit smoking on December 25th, 2003 (8 months clean and counting!) It was the hardest thing I've had to do thus far in my life, but it gets easier. I used the nicotine patch for the first month, it seemed to help with cravings and let me concentrate on the habit part. As far a losing weight, gaining weight when I quit was my biggest fear. Your metabolism will take a hit once you take the nicotine out of your system, but it will recover. If you smoke anything like I did (1 pack a day), at first cardio exercise will be tough-but hang in there it gets easier. My biggest thing was munching on food just because I had this overwhelming need to be doing something. I was 150 when I quit and now I am around 160 and losing once again. But to be honest with you, gaining ten pounds is worth being able to wake up in the morning and smell flowers and breathe in without my cheast hurting. Stopping smoking has changed my life.
