New guy!

Hey everybody, I have recently decided it is time to look the way I feel. I have always felt like I would be a fantastic looking guy if I were skinnier. I don't consider myself vain I just like to think I would be a great looking guy skinny. I am ready to see if I really am that good looking guy underneath. I started my actual diet three weeks ago, but I cut soft drinks almost a year ago which is a huge step for me. At that point I decided if I can stop drinking soft drinks I can stop eating unhealthy things and get in shape. So far I lost 10 lbs in three weeks, I want to loose more but sadly I haven't exercised enough. I am hoping to do some small cardio work-outs at home, and I am thinking about getting a Wii Fit. Everyone says I am starting to look different/skinnier, but sadly I cannot tell myself. I am not only doing this for me but for my girlfriend she loved me while I was big and now I want to repay her and give her a fantastic looking guy that girls are jealous of. My diet has not been the best I have slowly stopped eating meals (I know this is not a good thing, but feel free to give me some words of wisdom) I no longer get hungry at meal times. I am trying to eat at least 3 times a day now and I am only drinking water and milk (I am currently switching to skim milk) I exercise very little here and there and am going to start doing more. I currently weigh 276 I started out at 286 and I am in this until I look the way I want. Please leave some comments I joined this forum so I could have people to share my journey with and some extra helping hands. I look foreword to talking to everyone!

Hey and welcome to the forum!! I'm so glad your here. I really wish I could cut out soda completely!! Wow, I'm totally jealous of that. You should think about looking around the stickied posts, because there's a lot of good information on them, and starting a diary is also a huge help, for me it is anyway. Good luck on this journey, and hope to see you around!!

It was no easy task to drop the soda, I was drinking something like 4 Dr. Pepper's a day which I knew was no good for me but I just couldn't stop. I had a college success class and we had to make a 30 day commitment as part of our test. I picked soda and I never expected to be able to make it. I was so happy with myself that I wanted to see how long I could go and eventually I just decided to do away with them for good. Its been 10 months and I haven't had a single drop of any kind of soft drink. Thank you so much for the advice BTW this place looks awesome, such a positive environment for amazing modifications of life!

Welcome!

That's a big step in eliminating the sodas. Those things are bad news, yummy as they may be. TONS of high fructose corn syrup, which is worse than sugar, no matter what the commercials saying its no worse may say.

Gotta agree, the stickied posts have a TON of great info, and they may even inspire other questions.

Other good tools are sites like fitday.com where you can track your daily caloric intake. That site, as well as this one are great for accountability.

Oh, I'd also suggest reading through the diaries, and maybe start one of your own. That is a good place for you to document your eating, your exercise, post your victories and frustrations... and just general bs that happens in a lot of them. But is great fun.

How tall are you, and what weight are you looking to get down to? Are you wanting to put on more muscle? Weight lifting is a good exercise to do anyway, just because muscle helps burn fat.

Again, welcome!

P.S. LOVE your nickname.

Hi and Welcome, Frank!

I'm a new member too, but wanted to say "Congratulations on giving up the soda!" That's quite an accomplishment. I, myself, gave up Diet Coke two weeks ago and I am feeling great. I was drinking approximately 64 oz of Diet Coke every day for the past 26 years (I did try to give them up several times over the years, but never lasted more than a week!) But I finally decided this was the time to do it and I've heard over and over that Diet Coke actually hinders weight loss. It's only been two weeks since I gave them up (I've replaced the Diet Coke with unsweetened tea) and my morning back pain is completely gone! My dry eyes are gone. The little aches and pains I had in my joints are gone!!! I will never go back to drinking them.

Thanks for sharing your story and I wish you the best on your weight loss journey!

Isn't THAT the truth! My knees are so much happier without the extra 80 pounds on them.
