new to ab workouts or trimming down the mid section

i just started working out my abs and want to know how to get the best results should i work them out everyday or what. i also heard if you have a lot of fat around your waist doing ab workouts will make your stomach stick out more.by the way i wear a 40 inch pants. so i need to do something to get that down.

Your main focus right now should be losing bodyfat as it is this that will eventulaly make your abs show. some ab work too build them up before they are visable is not a bad thing but your main focus should be good diet and a good excersize plan. what other excersizes do you plan too do?

thanks for replying i have a 5 day routine and i also ride my bike 45 min. a day. pretty much your average chest and tri then back and bi then shoulders then legs and we repeat one section a week rotating different each week.
