Newbie Here!

Hello Everyone!
I am enjoying this wonderful, supportive site so far! It's good to see there are many people out there who support each other in their weight loss journey.

My Quick Background. Back in October of '08 I began feeling very slow and lethargic and decided to weigh myself. To my dismay I realized that I had hit 220.8 pounds on the scale. I think seeing the scale was my main motivation not to mention I wasn't feeling very good health wise. I downed a minimum of 3 soda pops a day! I think pop was my main problem. I was so addicted to coca cola it was pathetic.

So my plan of attack began! My wife and I signed up for a gym membership and I began spending 30-60 minutes on the treadmill at an incline a minimum of 5 days a week. I also completely stopped drinking soda pop cold turkey! I only drank water with the exception of an occasional green tea or smoothie. I also changed my diet some by limiting my calorie intake for breakfast and lunch and having a decent, reasonable dinner. I also began using the Wii Fit on a daily basis which has given me a huge improvement. I currently stand in at 175.3 lbs as of today and have about 9 lbs to go before I'm at my perfect goal weight (according to the Wii Fit)

I am planning to use the useful info of this site to help me go the distance and finish my goal! I have posted my before and after picture in this thread if you are interested in seeing my changes so far. Most people here are extremely supportive and it seems like a great place to help people!

wow, that is really awsome. I can't wait to be in the 170's (I'm currently in the 180's, and quite tired of them).

What is your height, slickg? Do you know your BF%? Just curious - my BF% is still really high (in the 20's) and I'm wondering what my final weight will be when all is said and done. You should def start a journal, I would love to read about how you lose those last 10 pounds... it will be a great inspiration when I get to that point.

Sorry I should have clarified height didn't think of it. I'm 6'1". I honestly don't have a clue about my BF% you would need a caliper thing to check that out right? Actually I think I have an extra scale at home that supposedly determines body fat percentage, not sure how accurate it is but I will try it when I get home and let you know. I "think" it checks based on electric pulses or something I haven't used that one in a long time. I will keep a journal and track everything.

Okay, cool! So, you're 6'1" and getting down to 166 pounds. I'm 5'7" so my goal of 160 may be to high, sigh... lol. I've never been under 160, so I'll have to see what it feels like once I get there.

I have a scale that says BF%, like you. It's not too accurate b/c I get various numbers everytime I step on it. You can google a BF% calculator based on your weight and waist measurement. Just FYI. If you 6'1" then your BF% is probably pretty low.

Well the only reason I've set my goal to 166 is because of BMI. Obviously BMI isn't the most accurate due to muscle mass, etc but I figured it'd be a good starting point. 5'7" and 160 isn't necessarily aiming high depending on muscle mass, etc. At this point I think it's more important for me to tone up but I'm figuring it'd show better once I get down to 166 or so.

I think the biggest problem I have right now is the fat that's staying around my belly area...it's probably putting up the biggest fight of getting burned off.

Thanks for the suggestion with google BMI calculator. I'll start with the scale later since I haven't done any measurements on myself yet but that will probably be next. I'm sure one of those caliper things would probably have the most accuracy anyways

Hey man, Sorry my batteries were fried on the scale so I picked up some new ones today. The scale with it's electrodes reads out that I'm currently at 16% BF. I took the readings 3 times in a row and it kept coming back with 16% so I'm going to assume it's at least close.
