Unhappy What do you say when the doc is wrong

I been sitting on my buttocks now since May the first. First surgery was to remove a blood clot. Takes about six weeks before you can return to work. One of the benefits of being diabetic..clogs up your arteries. So while I was out right of the bat I started helping the wife out. Kept the house clean, did the laundry and all the food shopping...sounds good huh. Put myself into another blood clot and a hernia on top of that. The surgeon said try sitting for a month and taking a break. Still did most of the stuff but was a bit more careful. Going back into the same incision was a bummer with all the tissue damage and also took three time longer to heal...yea I am still out. Here is the bummer. I noticed my blood sugar was staying pegged out so I asked my PCP doctor to put me on Actos which really help but he also increased my insulin. I was already taking Glyceride/ Metformin 5/500 twice a day.A normal person blood sugar is around 120 to 90. He was trying to keep mine below 100 to help this incision heal faster.I stared to notice my sugar levels were going down to 75 to 55...this isn't good. at 40 ya drop. I also noticed that I started to gain weight fast. 216 to 227 in three weeks. I went back to him and he added more to this. Decided to get a second opinion. The other doctor said I was nuts and took me off half of what the first one had me on and said one on the reasons I was gaining so much weight was because I was starving my system of sugar and colories...this made me feel good. The first doctor said every time I start craving food or something sweet just start walking or working out. The other doctor said this is 100% wrong and is causing even more of a problem because I have no more sugar to burn. Yea I am stewing cause for me it takes me a month or two just to loose a pound here and there. Now I have to go back and start all the blood test all over again and get all new meds. After finding this out ...tell me if ya wouldn't wanna go back and pop the first doctor, it has been so hard for me to keep my weight down while being home from work cause I just can't be as active as I should be because of the two operations..ain't getting old fun..lol

The 2nd doctor could be right. Maybe try to gradually re-introduce some complex carbs such as whole grains to your diet, and hope for the best

I feel for you! I have a history of diabetes in the family and have been paying close attention to my blood sugar each time I go in for my cholesterol screenings. I remember hearing horror stories about my grandmother and her fight with diabetes and I just don't want to go there.

Glad you went in for a second opinion! Doctors are NOT infallible and sometimes a second or third opinion is needed to find the real answers.
