Red face Hey, new to the board

So i decided to join as a way to keep motivating myself...so let me introduce myself.

My name is Crystal and I am a sr. in college about to graduate. I am 5'11 and weigh in at 215. Everyone tells me i look fine, just tall and in porportion. Thats how I have always been, but according to the BMI I am overweight. I basically want to loose about 30 lbs.
I now go to the gym daily. but often blow it off and I am seeming to loose motivation. I like going to the gym but this is slowing me down.
I usually at least do 40 mins on the eliptical and then .5 + miles on the threadmill.
My eating habits are generally healthy, but i do have a bad tendency to overeat or eat late at night, mainly due to my schedual.

I guess i am getting frustrated b/c my scale just doesn't budge and i know muscle weighs more than fat. But my clothes pretty much stay the same as well.

I would love to hear feedback or advice especially to keep me motivated.

thanks so much

Hmmm, motivation tips. One problem might be that cardio in the gym is mind blowingly boring! Try different stuff in the gym, and outside of it. In the gym, try strength training - machines, dumbbells, etc. Outside - try classes - tae bo, dancing, fencing, aerobic, yoga, etc. Or try jogging, cycling, swimming, hiking, or whatever. Try setting a weekly schedule with variety in your exercise.

You could also try my old favourite. Set yourself targets and short term goals for exercise, and reward yourself when you reach them, by buying yourself something nice. Goals can be based on whatever you like - total exercise duration, numbers of crunches, etc.

Finally, try starting an online diary in the Diary section. Record your exercise, set yourself a schedule in there.

Good luck!

Welcome to the board!

I have a hard time staying motivated too. I overcame some of that by purchasing a video ipod, and then staying on the machine for the length of a TV show or something like that.

I also keep my motivation up by more unusual workouts. Did you know they have sports hula hoops? For $20 you can get a hula hoop that gives you a heck of a workout! There are also things like DDR, or juggling, or unicycling, etc. I've always enjoyed those kinds of odd skills, and it's fun to show off a new juggling trick you learned while working out :-) If I can't get up the motivation to go to the gym, I'll commit to spending at least a half hour on one of these sorts of things.

Hi there, sounds like you and I are at the same place basically. I do 40 min on the eliptical too, and get that same feeling about working so hard and not having any progress on the scale. My motivation at the gym is the eliptical machine, the one I use tells me how many calories I am burning, and seeing the calories Im burning makes me want to do more.

I also have some bad eating habits like you. I dont even know what is considered late eating anymore, as I wake up so late and sleep so late. You should make a schedule for going to the gym, and have consequences for not going. Like I will go to the gym everyday Su-Th at 9pm, and for everyday I skip I have to cut the 400 calories I would have burned from my food.

Hope that helps!
