Hi From Wisconsin

Hi,

I'm 45 and have struggled with my weight ever since my first pregnancy 25 years ago. I'm always either on a diet or in the process of gaining all the weight back I lost, plus a few extra pounds each time which makes things that much more frustrating and insulting.

It seems like I've tried every diet out there without any long term success. Two years ago I tried the low carb diet that Curves was promoting at the time along with working out at Curves 4-5 times a week. I lost 40 pounds, but after 4 months my Mom got really sick and I started practically living at the hospital and nursing home which meant I went right back to eating fast food and not exercising.

I'm now at my heaviest ever - 280 pounds - and I feel terrible along with having no self esteem.

But I want to change things.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Bluefirefly

It's easier to think of a diet as something that you'll stick to for life, not something that you have to punish yourself with for a while in order to reach a desired weight. Just concentrate on being healthy, and I'm sure that this time you can succeed for life.

Don't mean to sound preachy, I just love giving advice =D

Joining this forum has really helped me to stick to my diet, so I hope that it works for you, too! You could start a journal to track your daily progress, thats been my favorite portion of the site so far.

The most important thing is that you've really decided to change, and that's the biggest step of all!

Hello and welcome bluefirefly
I think you have taken the main first step, you can be proud of yourself!
I too sort of lost control over the "health and weight" when some hard stuff happened to people that were really close to me. Anyway, I just want to say you're not alone in this. I'll be happy to help if you need some support. I mean it!

Once again, welcome !!!

Welcome! I'm from Wisconsin, too. I find that writing down what I eat and how much I exercise to be good motivation, and good at helping keep things in check. I agree with Tri, though, it's best to look at this as a lifestyle change and not a diet, or the pounds will just keep coming back. I've been there! Good luck and jump in where ever!
