Room For 1 More??

Hello everyone! I fort i'll just introduce myself. My names Ross I'm 16 (17 on christmas eve) from Birmingham (England). You might be think well his young why has he signed up for? Well I've been thinking its about time for a few changes. I'm very over wieght im 19 stone 5lb although I'm 6ft 2. You could say I've let it slip? True. I'm not going to blame my weight gain, on depressive incedents or anythink other than it's just simply my falut. My ideal weight would be around 12 stone. I would just like to say best of luck to everyone on this site and I hope you all achieve your goals. Plus I know how much you olders (no offence) pretty much hate the way us younger generation talk. So I tryed my best to write formal english. Hope to talk too some of you people soon.

Best Wishes

Ross

Hi Ross, welcome to the boards! What's your plan for getting rid of the weight?

I was almost exactly the same weight as you a few months ago, now I'm down 14kg (30lb) and feeling good. Good food, a fair amount of exercise, and NO SUGAR.

Hi Roscoe

The food I eat after 7 is what puts my weight on because that's when I eat it and because that's when I'm saying ok day's done, work's done now I can do what I feel like. I feel like eating sweet junk.

I am just starting again to try and eat well and get healthy, so I certainly don't have all the answers. I know not everyone problem eats in the same way as me anyhow. However, the tips I've been given and which have helped include:
- Eat well balanced meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner so that you're not so hungry between times (including after dinner). Each meal should include some protein, some complex carbohydrate and some vegetables. This will help balance your sugar levels and reduce cravings for junk food.
- Organize some healthy snacks in advance.
- I was brought up to have a dessert after dinner. I find that for me it helps to have a low calorie dessert after my main meal - it's like it's sending me off in the right direction. It actually seems to work better than having nothing and feeling a bit restless and then eating something sugary. My idea of a low cal dessert is a nice diet yoghurt or some non fat natural yoghurt with fresh fruit. When I am eating badly those things don't appeal to me at all. Yet once I start actually eating them they seem like yummy treats!

What do you do during the evening? Could you do something more active and less likely to encourage eating?

I don't know if any of that is any help to you. There is probably better advice available here, but I wish you well. It's great that you are trying to turn things around for yourself. I was trying to be thinner when I was your age, counting calories only and trying to take shortcuts (eg "I can have a chocolate if I skip lunch", or "I can starve myself for two days then eat properly"). I surely wish I knew then what a recipe for getting fatter that was. I am almost as new as you are here, but welcome any way, and good luck.

Roscoe, Welcome good to have you. I've always heard if you don't have a plan you will reach it. Don't know if thats true, because I have a plan.
