Smile ramblings of a newbie

Raye here, found this site by accident. was looking for info about preventing saggy skin after losing 100lbs. Thats how many I need to get rid of, it won't be a loss. It will be good ridance.
I will be turning 50 in a few years and I don't want to live the rest of my life uncomfortable in this oversized body. Unable to reach my toes or much else for that matter.
I didn't start out in life being overweight but I wasn't a twig either. When I think of the many times in my young life I thought I was fat. Come on, 116lbs at 5"2" isn't fat. Now at 230lbs I truly know what fat is . It occurs to me that my true weight issues started the same time I started getting involved with the opposite sex . Yeah its all their fault.( sarcastic humor) Of course its not all some man's fault. I refuse to give anyone that much power over me. Its time for me to stop being a sissy, get real and take responsibility for what I have turned my body into. I am the only one who can control what I put in my mouth and therefore on my backside.
So while I have my work cut out for me on the weight loss front. Its good to find a community of people whom I can learn from and share the wt loss experience with.
I am still in the determining what kind of food plan I need use.
Like many of you I've tried and been successful a couple of times in the past with getting wt off. Trouble is it boomerangs and comes back with a vengence. I want off the not so merry go round.
I haven't dieted recently because I'm trying to avoid the yo yo syndrome. I don't want to cut calories ,slow my metabolism down even more making it harder to lose weight.
I am in the process of formulating my plan of attack.
Things I know for sure:
1. I need to get an exercise program going, I have joined the Curves. I figured that would start me out on a somewhat painless path.Giving me the overall exercise I need for cardio and toning my muscles. I will still need to do weight traing to build muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat. As we age we tend to lose muscle mass which results in less physical strenth.
2. I need to drink at least 2-4 quarts of water daily. Water will help flush toxins out of my liver, enabling it to do its job of metabolizing fat better.
3. I will need some kind of nutritional plan w/ vitamin supplementation.
4. I will need to focus in on what motivates me to get busy and actually put the plan into action instead of reaching for my box of chocolate cup cakes and continually thinking I need to lose weight.
5. I will need to set short and long term goals.
Well, having rambled on like a babbling nutcase I'm going to get some rest.
Tomorrow is another day and I've got things to do like the rest of you on this site.
So Good Night, Thanks for giving me a place to ramble for while. I look forward to meeting other members and learning more about the site and how to use it.

Hello and Welcome!!! I noticed that you were still not sure what diet to use. I highly recommend the South Beach Diet. Unlike most low carb diets, you add them back after two weeks! I've lost thirty pounds on it, but thats a different story. If you are determined to loose weight *healthy* and easily, then South Beach is the way to go!

Oooh! Another babbling nutcase! I love the way you spell your name, Raye!

You may not know what to do yet, but you've got an idea what you need to do and where you need to start looking for your solutions. There's a lot of info on these forums, and I haven't had a chance to get anwhere NEAR all of it looked at, so spend some time in the weight loss diaries to see what other people are doing, and what you think might work for you.

Se ya 'round! ~QJ

mmay wong,
I found this info for the South Beach Diet on "3 fatchicks.com" Hope it help.

South Beach Diet The South Beach Diet has taken the world by storm. Originally designed as a healthy eating plan for cardiac patients, this diet has proven to be a successful weight loss diet as well. The South Beach Diet fills a necessary void between low carb and low fat diets. It only eliminates bad carbs, or high glycemic carbs, and bad fats which are saturated or trans fats. Everything else is allowed. This leaves a large selection of the healthiest foods to build our menus around. Your choices will increase as you move through the phases of this diet, known as Phase 1 and Phase 2.
Phase 1 lasts for two weeks and eliminates all carbohydrates from the diet. We know, we just said this was not a low carb diet! Only Phase 1 takes this approach. The purpose is to put your body through a carb detox, which will help elimniate any carb cravings and make the rest of the diet easier. It also flushes the body of excess water, resulting in a weight loss of up to 13 pounds in two weeks. Water loss is usually temporary, but it will make you feel better, and will give you a much needed boost of inspiration when you step on the scales. During this phase, you can eat most vegetables, some low fat cheeses, and lean meats such as skinless chicken, or fish. You must exclude fruits, sugars, and breads, among other things. Phase 1 can be difficult to get through, because it is extreme. Fortunately, it only lasts two weeks, and you know good things await you. You will never appreciate something as simple as a strawberry as much as you will when you enter Phase 2.

Phase 2 begins the real diet. You will be able to add carbs (calories) back into your diet, though you must do this gradually. Dr. Agatston recommends we add one serving of carbs per day, for as long as we continue to lose weight. If we start to regain , or level off, then we should cut back until the loss resumes. You will still be limited in that you should not include sugar or other high glycemic carbs, such as white bread and white potatoes. You must also take care not to eat bad fats, as this can be very bad for your overall health. However, the list of acceptable foods is so long, that you will never run out of menu ideas. You stay on Phase 2 until you reach your goal weight.

You should never go back to your old way of eating, and should make a transition to Phase 3, which you will follow for the rest of your long and healthy life. Phase 3 involves adding enough carbs (calories) so that you maintain your weight without losing or gaining weight.
