Question Hi Everyone I am new here

I joined today and need to lose 100 + lbs. Hope to find friends and help here.
Any suggestions on diets to lose wt? I was thinking on Biggest loser or wt watchers? Borderline diabetic and tired of being a fatty. Let me know what you think. Deb in Toronto.

Hi Deb, congrats on making a positive change for your health! You'll find lots of help here. The people are great!!

I would consult a doctor and see what he/she thinks is best for you. What works for me is a combination of smoothies (I use Right-size as opposed to Slim-Fast because the Right-size seem to control my hunger better) and just common sense counting calories. I rarely keep track of fat, just the calories. I'm sure you'll find lots of great advice here!

Good luck and keep us posted!!

Hi Deb (I'm a deb too!)

When I started losing weight I had about 100 pounds to lose too - it all seemed so overwhelming at first!

The good news is you CAN do it. Take each day, each meal, one day at a time.

I started out with small little changes at first. Drinking more water, not snacking while fixing dinner, smaller portions - simply said, just cutting back and I lost the first 19-25 pounds. Then I started walking, couple times a week, a mile or two at a time, then slowly added in more walking.

I also started using Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople to start tracking my calories - and as much as I did NOT want to track calories, I found I lost more weight, consistently when I was better at keeping track.

Consider creating a journal over in our diary section so that we can get to know you and follow your journey as you reach your goals!

Getting started is always the hardest step - and you've taken it You CAN do this!

Thanks for the welcome and great advice. I will definately start the journal. I have been keeping a log of my meals all week. What an eye opener, it's the nibbles and snacks doing me in. My portion sizes are too big for little old me. Deb
