Exclamation gastric balloon (BIB)

Hi I am new to this. Having struggled with my weight for the last ten years and failed. I now put on about 20 pounds a year (despite regular gym memberships and weight watchers /slimmmingworld joining!!). I have now decided to consider surgery. Having researched this I have had a consultation about the gastric balloon (bib). I wonderered if there was anyone else who had had this done or knew anything about it and could help me with this decision!!!

Hi sarah, is the gastric balloon the same as the stomach banding?...where they inflate a saline filled balloon around your stomach?...If its the same..then my good friend had that surgery 1 year ago.,,and she could give you some info. If its not, then im sorry I know nothing about it
Good luck
Michelle

no. I looked into the banding but was put off by having to have surgery. The balloon doesn't seem to have a lot of info about it. You have it inserted under sedation via the mouth and it is then filled with saline inside your stomach. Apparently you can keep it in for 6 months max and it kind of reduces the amount in your stomach! Sounds great. I would just feel better about having it done if I heard some success stories or something!!!
Thanks x

What's your weight now?

I hate to see people resort to any type of unnatural surguries or alterations if you can lose it naturally. Buying a gym membership and joniing weight watchers isn't going to solve your problem if you aren't utilizing them correctly.

I don't mean to be harsh, and hopefully you don't take it like that, but have you done everything POSSIBLE before you think about doing these types of things? What has caused you to fail in your weight loss goals? Have you been trying to do them on your own?

Motivation and Teamwork are two of the most important factors in weight loss, if you ask me. Maybe there are other alternatives before trying to have doctors treat you for something like this? Your lifestyle and life in general may be at risk by resorting to these types of things.

Just looking out for you, because I had these same problems and decisions to make, I was up to almost 400, and life gave me a nice slap in the face. I'm down to about 337 now, and I'm going stronger, and I'm hoping you can do the same thing.

/rant off (sorry!)

I currently am 257 pounds. I have been dieting now for ten yrs. I just seems that I lose 14 - 30 pounds then put it back on. I don't seem to be able to stick to the diet for more than 6 weeks. These days a couple of days is all I seem to manage. I just feel that I don't want to be here this time next year and be in the same situation and another 14 pounds on!! I do appreciate that this is a massive step to take though.

Hi Sarah
My daughter and I both had a balloon inserted 4 weeks ago and am more than happy to share information - we have both lost 16LBS in 3 weeks but it has been a rough ride occasionally.

Goddess doesn't sound like you've ever committed to a lifestyle change.. you're going to need to do that when you h ave the balloon implanted - I hope you've had lots of counselling before undergoing this procedure..

I don't want to sound harsh, but if you can't stay on a diet for very long, how are you going to do it when you have the balloon implanted? I don't know much about the surgery, but please carefully think this one through, that's all I ask.

it sounds scary to me. and if you can't address the emotional and psychological reasons you keep falling off the wagon, then getting a balloon in your belly isn't going to help. you'll be miserable. if it was just about eating less, you would have done it by now. there is more to it and getting surgery doesn't help with those things.

Hi,

Yes I have a few baggy bits, mainly the top of my legs and my stretch marks on my stomach are a bit more saggy. But hey Im 44 years old and never really expected to gain a body like jordon! I had to buy size 10 jeans the other day - really upset my husband but made my day!! I have had the balloon out for 5 weeks now and have lost a couple of pounds. I wasnt able to eat huge meals and have continued to have lots of little meals throughout the day. I do worry Im eating too much but I think that my calorie intake was so low with the balloon in that I have lost a bit of perspective as to how much is ok now. Must be doing ok if the weight isnt piling back on.

xxx tina
