Funny enough i was goig to ask the same question than essexbabe(I also live in Essex despite not being from there originally!).
I registered to tesco online diet as I needed someone to tell me what to do and also needed to feel committed(I know I do it for myself but it can be hard sometimes...).
Let me know what you did to motivate yourself?
Good luck to you Essexbabe! |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Jump Start Mornings Shirley & I are very healthy 60 year olds - I start the way with a two hour hike over rolling hills and streets - after that comes nutritional shakes & hot grains, fruit - then one lean meal during the day - and healthy grazing in between - another nutritional drink - Shirley uses the tread mill - we also do stretches, light weights and yoga.
What we've learned is that the key to everyone's good health is healthy eating - people don't agree on all the details of that -and exercise. Morning exercise and food as everyone who looks into this knows.
The best to you.

Mitch | Exercise is healthy, period. It doesn't have to be "morning exercise." |

Rep Power: 182 | | To the OP, I like to start with a 15% reduction off of maintenance. Your number seems little low. Based on experience, 15 calories per pound of bodyweight usually gets pretty close to your true maintenance.
All of these calculators, and even the more in depth formulas you may come across are merely estimates though.
Best way to find your true maintenance without getting hooked up to machines is simple. Track your food intake for 2 weeks. Were you gaining or losing weight. If you neither gained nor lost.... you just found your maintenance. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Exercise You're right about that, Steve - people just need to do it - I've been into various exercise programs for 45 years beginning in my teens with weights at home, track, and yoga - up to the present the two hour morning hike fits into my daily trek - my wife does her tread mill work out and weights & stretchs in the evenings.
We look at people our age and younger and see so many out of shape and unhealthy people live in the USA - when we were in Malaysia and Singapore in 04/05 just trimness alone - especially in Singapore - was a stunning contrast. Having ample healthy food and exercise programs is a global challenge.
The best to everyone.

Rep Power: 0 | | hmmm... don't think I'm eating enough. Today I had a grapefruit for breakfast, 2 cheese scones for lunch (hate to think how many calories LOL) and for tea a bowl of pasta. I'm not hungry at all though. |
