Rep Power: 28 | | | v8 Juice How is V8 juice in nutritional terms? I'm kind of anti-vegetables other than the garden salad variety. But I really need to get more in me I think. I picked up today low sodium v8 juice. 2 servings of veggies, only 200mg sodium. How is this stuff to have with dinner in place of my vegetables? Only thing i'd worry about is the 12g of sugar. But throughout the day I have very little sugar in any of my foods. Lots of chicken, salad, nuts, turkey, etc. So I hope its an ok snack/dinner substitute!
What's funny is about three months ago I tried this stuff (when I was still eating fast food 24/7) and I hated it! The other day I had a v8 and didnt mind it at all, I guess eating healthy has changed my tastes a little over the last two weeks.

Rep Power: 357932 | | one of the reasons for having vegetables, in my mind, is for the fiber, which v8 juice has none of - the low sodium v8 needs way too much vodka in it to make it taste ok
try some vegetables...

try some vegetables... | hmm ok, well that is good advice! I will -try- to get in veggies.
But aside from that, (And me being able to stand the low sodium!) does v8 make a good on the run snack/meal?

Rep Power: 357932 | | | it's very low calorie - I try to keep my snacks at about 150 - 200 calories so it's really not enough calories to be a good snack, but if you enjoy it - drink it - just remember to not have it be your only fluid.

For fluids im drinking at or around 3 litres of water a day. After the gym though (like tonight) I did an hour and 10 min work out on the cycle and treadmill and I never feel like eating a meal after so a v8 goes down very well and re-energizes me.

Rep Power: 6722 | | | Don't let it replace real fruit/veggie in your diet. Do not consider a glass of V8 en equivalence to a cup of raw veggies/fruit. The nutrient content of V8 is severely drained in contrast to some fresh/frozen fruit/veggies you blend together to make a drink yourself. |

However I still want to know if its ok to have as a low calorie snack? Like I said, after the gym I really dont feel like eating a meal. But I need something to energize me and usually V8 does the trick.

Yes, v8 would make a decent "low calorie snack".
After Gym, Well not exactly the most "optimal" post workout drink.. |

A 2:1 or 4:1 mixture of carbs-protein is usually fine.
So for instance, 30 grams dextrose, 15grams whey powder(just about any protein powder) mixed in water than chucked down. Sounds tasty, yeah?
Of course, this changes drastically based on what you did, what your goals are and so on. Usually a 2:1mixture will do fine with most people. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
