I have been looking for a multi-vitamin to take and most of them seem to have some amount of chromium in them. I've read a bunch of articles about how chromium is really really bad for you. I know there's different kinds of chromium. Is the kind and amount in multi-vitamins insignificant? Should I just take individual vitamins over a multi-vitamin?

Chromium is not "bad" for you. In fact if you are concerned about Toxicity from it, then don't.
Unless you had say a liver or kidney disease then you would need to take such a large dose you would have to intentionally try to over dose on it.
Chromium is a very important mineral and a deficient of it is often linked with diabetics. In fact, I read a report not to long ago that showed anywhere from 30-50% of the US is deficient in it thanks to the over cultivation of our soil.
