Rep Power: 0 | | | of course it does, it has to burn all of the alcohol away before you can build any muscle. and alcohol can add up really fast on the calorie count, like a shot of some hard liquor can be over 100 cals on some drinks. |

Rep Power: 0 | | Not that im a prude or anything(i've been known to have a drink or two ) but alcohol is actually poison to your body.it's not something that needs to be in there, in moderation they say its ok.. but it has to be processed through your liver before you can go on to burn other cals. Most alcoholic drinks have a high calorie count, personally id rather eat my cals than drink them....if your doing the red wine thing for the heart benefits,you can do grape juice (the purple not the white)it has the same effect w/out the alcohol. |

Rep Power: 0 | | as long as you are counting it in with your calories, i don't worry about alcohol too much... if you drink in moderation you should be fine =) I have to be honest however... weeks where i have had a few drinks i notice that i don't lose nearly as much (if at all) whereas if i haven't had any alcohol during the week, i do much better |

Rep Power: 15 | | doesn't alcohol have lots of carbs as well? But yeah, I still drink. I mean when I go out, it's impossible for me to stay completely sober. And to be honest, having a few drinks doesn't really effect my weight loss. I've actually had a 2 weeks where I didn't go out AT ALL, it was during exam times, and I seemed to do the same as the other weeks where I did drink. I guess as long as you drink in moderation, and don't drink so much to the point where you pass out. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Sugar Alcohol? What?! Okay. So I made a heart wrenching decision tonight. A package of pop rocks had 17 calories, 8.5 grams of carbs and 8.5 grams of sugar ALCOHOL. Nothing else. But what the heck is sugar alcohol and how bad is it? Please help. Thanks Eric. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | I imagine something distilled or fermented from sugar. It sounds like they use that to help make the reactive 'pops' that it does. I'm sure its not good for you, but I can't imagine them making a candy that is horrible for you either. If it was bad, I'm sure people would have been all over it a long time ago and it be off the market. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Yeah, I am not sure I trust "them" to protect me. They still sell tons of Coke and Pepsi to children and everyone else and everyone knows that stuff is bad for you... And was not there recently some other artificial sweetener that causes this or that? Maybe because "sugar alchohol" sounds so normal, no one bothered to ask the question yet...
If you eat it in small amounts it probably won't kill you, but it may not be the best thing for one's health out there, although I don't have any hard facts, and it may be completely fine. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Sucrose is made of a glucose (6 ringed sugar) and a fructose (5 ringed sugar) attached via an ether (C-O-C) and there are a number of -OH (or alcohol) groups attached to the ring constituents. When I hear "sugar acohol" I think- sugar already has acohol groups on it!
But, maybe there is an extra -OH group on one of those carbons? (Splenda has a Cloride that makes it undigestable to our enzymes)
That or the sugar could be dissolved in alcohol, which is a pretty good solvent. |

Rep Power: 0 | | When your in the web jungle, Google is your friend. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_alcohol
A sugar alcohol (also known as a polyol, polyhydric alcohol, or polyalcohol) is a hydrogenated form of carbohydrate, whose carbonyl group (aldehyde or ketone, reducing sugar) has been reduced to a primary or secondary hydroxyl group. They are commonly used for replacing sucrose in foodstuffs, often in combination with high intensity artificial sweeteners to counter the low sweetness. Some common sugar alcohols are:
* maltitol
* sorbitol
* xylitol
* isomalt
* lactitol
* erythritol
Disaccharides and monosaccharides can both form sugar alcohols; however, sugar alcohols derived from disaccharides (eg Maltitol and lactitol) are not entirely hydrogenated because only one aldehyde group is available for reduction. |

Rep Power: 0 | | Questions: alcohol? fried food? Hello
i'm a newbie:P
i decided to drop a few pounds a week ago and have started a diet
I got a few questions they may sound stupid but here it goes:
is alcohol that bad if you take the calories into consideration? does it contain an unwanted type of intake?
is frying food (such as chicken) a bad idea? what if there is just a bit of olive oil or even no oil at all? Is it the oil thats the problem or the frying?
