I get up at 5:30 and head to the gym which is 30 minutes away. It is right next to my office so I get ready after my workout and hop on over to work.
When do I eat? Should I eat BEFORE I go to the gym? Should I wait 1 hour after I workout? I am totally confused here - did a search but came up empty handed.
This week all I am doing is cardio. Starting on Monday I will start weights 3 days a week and cardio 3 days a week. This morning I had no energy what so ever. I mean ZERO! It took all I had just to make it 20 minutes.
So can someone offer me some advice?
Thanks!

This has been discussed here a couple times before, but if you don't feel like searching, the gist of it is: "Do what you feel comfortable with"
If you don't eat before your workouts, and it makes you feel crappy and hypoglycemic, throw in a meal beforehand. Maybe not a 6 egg with garlic and onions and hot sauce meal, but something that'll give you enough energy to get through the workout.
If you try eating beforehand, and you don't like it 'cause it makes your stomach crampy / gurgly, then either try different foods, or switch your workout time to a different hour, where you can have eaten something long beforehand, and not go in completely empty.

Thanks James. I did a search on here but maybe I was not searching the right words.
I will try to eat part of my breakfast before I leave my house. Right my breakfast is 6 hard boiled eggs (minus the yolk) and oatmeal. I may try to start drinking a protien shake before I leave but I hateeeeeeeee protien shakes. I will try it tomorrow.
Right now I am doing cardio- Trying to increase my cardio daily by a couple of minutes and push myself. I am walking a fast pace for 3 minutes, jogging at a pace of 4.3 for 2 minutes for a total of 30 minutes.
Next week on Mon Wed and Fri I will be doing weight training. Tues, Thurs, and Sat will be cardio days.
So with that being said can you explain further what you mean by that statement?

holy crap!!! That's awesome. That is the kind of breakfast that I need to be eating. Do you just boil a mass of eggs before the week starts, and chuck ' em in a bowl?

I used to eat a truckload of hardboiled eggs with oats and blueberries. That got stale fast.
And to the OP, I wouldn't recommend lifting weights or doing anything to intense for that matter, without some food in your stomach. Training hard before eating is a great way to catabolize muscle.

LOL Thanks Steve - I will definitely eat before I work out.
I boil my eggs the night before - place them in a ziplock bag and bring them to work with them. I peel them and take the yolk out and eat them wtih my oatmeal.
I wont be eating them everyday. I do love hard boiled eggs though. I am trying to rotate the eggs with a protien shake. I just have to get up to where I can stomach the shake! LOL

Throw the powder in a blender. Mix in just enough whole milk (yes, I know... skim is too watery to work well, though) to where all the powder can blend, and then just let it run on the fastest setting for awhile. While it won't taste delicious, it also won't taste like you're licking a chickencow's butthole.
