best to eat for breakfast?

Trying to burn off some residual fat from my heavier days, currently at 160 with some leftover fat around my abdomen (seems to be all that's left grrrr). I currently eat either an apple or banana at 8am, a yogurt(activia) at 10, lunch at 12, some fruit around 3 and then eat dinner around 6. I do not eat anything after dinner. For lunch, it's either leftovers, or a leafy salad with some tuna. Dinner is a mixed bag, some days all pasta, some days all vegetables.

Does this sound healthy? This is the best i've felt for many years, but I am wondering if I am maximizing the amount of fat burning without exercise (currently winter, cannot bike ) Is there anything else I should be doing? eating more in the morning as an example...

The past several months, I biked regularly for about 30km 4 times a week at a very vigorous pace. I have since stopped because of the weather. I have since started a bulk up period, where I do as many pushups, leg ups and crunches as possible, though the fat seems to never go away!

Any help, advice or tips would be great, thanks!

I'd try to get in a little more protein. You want to keep the muscle you got. Glass of milk or something with the fruit in the morning? Or an extra thing of yogurt. I dunno what your calories can afford. Low fat milk might be best, or soy milk.

Couple of things.

First, I think your protein -- especially in the morning, is way too low. Your breakfast is heavy on fruit, and light on whole grains and lean protein. Yes, the Activa has some protein ... but not much. I would try some egg whites (provided you have the time) or maybe some whey powder mixed with some skim milk.

Also, this diet seems really low in fat -- almost too low (I don't know what your dinner or lunch is like though.) I'd try to take your healthy fats (MUFAs) up a bit. For your afternoon snack, eat the apple with some natural peanut butter. Or snack on things like almonds, walnuts, pecans, etc. People are far too obsessed with cutting out all fat -- but healthy fats have been shown to actually help people lose fat, rather than put it on.

I do like the fact that you are eating lots of smallish meals -- but I would try to balance them out a little more. Aim to always have some lean protein, a little healthy fat and a complex or fiberous carb at each meal. I think you'll find this is more effective.

Best of luck!

Matt

What's your stats? Height, age, weight, sex?

depending on how many calories you can spend, your diet could be a lot better. You're going to get NOWHERE if you're trying to bulk up with little or no protein.

I'd suggest drinking/eating protein before and after low-weight, high-rep (body building) workouts, and drink PLENTY of water. Remember to target one muscle group per day, and to only work that muscle group once a week. Also, Without water, the protein is almost useless, you need to be hydrated, and you must be able to replenish your muscles with protein.

Good luck.
