Eating Out Blues

I have been on the calorie counting diet for 4 weeks and it has worked well for me. However, for the month of April, I have visitors from interstate and overseas visiting. I have no choice but to frequently have meals outside and I am finding it very very hard to control what goes into my meal. Often there are few good choices that can be made on the menu. There is hidden fat and a lot of added fat to a lot of meals. So what I find myself doing is that I am cutting down my meal portions but finding myself starving before it is time for the next meal. Usually I have oatmeal in the morning which is low GI and is able to keep me going for longer. And after all that starving ... I only managed to maintain my weight. How miserable... Anyone with any suggestions?

Mostly just portion control, and do the soup & salad route. Clear broth soups because the cream soups will be loaded with fat. And with salads go easy on the dressing or low fat/lo cal if available. Then if someone offers you a bite of something of theirs that is fattening then you can still afford to try it

i know exactly how you feel. April is killing my weightloss with lots of family gatherings/meals.

i agree with the salad and soup route. ask for dressing to be on the side too. that'd control how much you have. as for restaurants, it all depends on where you go too... maybe suggest healthier locations to the family? Like Vietmanese has tons of soupy noodles that aren't very fattening. Or salad bars if you can convince your meat-loving friends. I like to order healthy sandwiches. Avoid deep frying restaurants at all cost!

i think it's okay to be hungry before your next meal. snacks inbetween meals are okay as long as it's reasonable. like an apple here as opposed to a candy bar.

good luck!

EDIT:

I JUST found this online. Hope it helps!
