ok who put all those calories in my avocado

I picked up a Haas avocado to add to my salad tomorrow and I decided to look up the calories and wow. Its close to 400 calories for just the avocado. I can just imagine what I use to take in when i would make a big batch of guacamole. I'm still going to have it I just really have to rearrange some food groups....

yeah, they're high in calories, but it's also good fat that is in them... it doesn't help much, but they are really good for you... and they have lots of fiber too.. and potassium...

You sure about that calorie count? Every source i've seen has them around 300 for an average size one... not that i've ever seen then the size of the florida avocados

I practically worship avocados.. I have a fresh tuna and avocado salad recipe that I loooooove... but alas.. it requires 2 whole avocados and I will happily eat the entire thing (because fresh tuna is good for me and avocados are good for me -yeah - but the 1000 plus calories by the time the salad is done isn't

These avocados I get from the farmers market are huge. they have the skin like a Haas avocado but they are more the size of an orange. these things are huge. They would be a meal in itself and yes I have two of sitting on the sink waiting on me to put knife to them lol. Ill prob have one as a meal and give the other to someone else.

Hey hillbillylee,
I just saw this.

You Just Think It's Guacamole
A lot of Mexican restaurants do this for the cost factor,
but the best thing is the fat factor - 1g fat, 1mg cholesterol per tablespoon.
Serving Size: 1 Tablespoon
Yield: 2 Cups

‹ Back to Appetizers

• 1 - 15 ounce can tender asparagus spears, drained
• 1 medium sweet onion, chopped very fine
• 1 cup tomato, seeded and skinned, chopped very fine
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice or lime juice
• 5 drops Tabasco® sauce
• 1/8 teaspoon fresh ground white pepper
• 1 clove garlic, crushed
• 2 tablespoons finely minced fresh cilantro

Blend asparagus in blender until smooth. Combine remaining ingredients. Refrigerate for several hours to blend flavors.

Serve with baked tortilla chips.

Per Serving: 15 Calories
1g Fat
1g Protein
2g Carbohydrate
1g Dietary Fiber
1mg Cholesterol
87mg Sodium

guacomole without avocado is just green stuff... that's just wrong... the dip doesn't sound bad, but if i was served that instead of guacomole - i'd demand my money back... total difference in texture...

First let me say Ill try the recipe just in the fact that I love asparagus. The taste between the asparagus and avocado has got to be like comparing fish to pork. I'm sure I would notice the switch.

if you are using an online food journal - they usually have it - try www.fitday.com or www.sparkpeople.com - both of those are free... www.nutritiondata.com has a bunch of foods as well...
