So the last couple weeks I've been getting major cravings for potato chips. I haven't had chips in ages, well, tortilla chips yes, but not potato chips... my question is this... what's your favourite alternative to chips?

I would agree with bw and say crackers, but I actually love those way more than chips and end up eating the whole box XD Wheat Thins are my weakness
Do you have things like kettle chips, which apparently are healthier than the bigger brands, where you live? Or maybe try some of that low calorie pop corn.

Kettle Chips are slightly healthier, but I could totally eat the whole bag. *laugh* I guess it's just a matter of finding what satisfies the cravings and doesn't set off a binge. Popcorn is a good idea. Air popped is super healthy.

Unfortunately I don't have an alternative. I can't even think about chips... It makes my skin so bad and the calories just ruin my diet. But damn, they are good.

Thanks for starting this tread Mike. I, too, am a potato chip-a-holic! I'm going to try the kettle chips that were suggested. I bought a bag of banana chips the other day, they weren't good. I'm certain it was the brand though. I wish I was near a Trader Joe's the ones they have are supposed to be GREAT!

I like lite Baked Tortilla chips w/ a dip I made Fatfree or
reduce fat Cream cheese & sour cream and add taco seasoning
and whala taco dip and baked chips! About 120 cals for 9 huge
chips and 60 cals for the dip and the fat in the chips is 1 gram!

I have a fruit dryer, and I've been drying apple in it. If you slice it thinly and really really dry it, you get a nice crunchy snack without all that salt and fat.
If you're really craving the salty oily taste of chips though, your options are pretty limited.
Why don't you go buy a small bag of chips, sit down somewhere quiet and eat them slowly, really taking the time to enjoy them. `Bad' foods are only really bad when eaten to excess, the way you might if you were just snacking while watching TV. This might get you over the craving. You might even find yourself disliking them a bit `Hey, I can feel the oil stuck to my teeth!'. Don't do this more often than once a week and it shouldn't cause you any problems.
One day a week I buy a takeaway meal, fried chicken with chips (`fries'). I really enjoy it, and it puts a bit of a blip on my progress, but in my opinion enjoying a luxury like that occasionally is good for you, maybe more in spirit than in body, but still good.

No joking, beef jerky kills that craving for me. Beef jerky is high in protein, low in calories (about 70 calories per serving, 3 servings per reg. sized bag) and tastes fricken' awesome.
I've been eating beef jerky before I went on the whole 'no snack foods' shpeil, so it doesn't feel like you're 'dieting' at all.
