Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what is an acceptable amount of sodium per day. I started dieting again and am having trouble getting rid of the bloat. Thanks in advance.
the RDA of sodium is fewer than 2400 mg a day. (that's technically the equivelent of 1 tsp of salt a day - but there's a ton of sodium in processed foods, in canned foods, in restaurants, etc) - it's really tough to stay under that limit.
if you are hypertensive (high blood pressure) then the number should drop to below 1500 mg a day
If you up youor intake of water, it shoud help to flush the sodium out of you -
Thanks , I've been drinking about 100 ounces of water a day . This always happens when I start to diet, My body rebels for a while . I don't know if I can keep it under a tsp of salt.
Try to just eat fresh fruits and veggies to lower your sodium intake. Don't cook with salt (or lemon salt or any spices with salt in the ingredience). That's all I do and my sodium stays low enough. If you happen to overload on sodium, up your water to flush out your system. Hope this helps!!!
Around 3g per day will be fine unless you have high blood pressure. Just be sure you are drinking a ton of water which will promote the excretion of excess sodium from the body.
EDIT
Exactly what maleficent said. I need to start reading the posts before mine....LOL.
