OJ is a pretty good source of quick energy .. just be careful of the acid, as many people have problems digesting it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Cereal bars are generally pretty good, but are sometimes loaded with sugar ... look into something like a protein bar or protein shake ... both are really quick and full of the good stuff.

I agree with AllCdnBoy. I couldn't handle OJ on an empty stomach, but I do enjoy a shake every once in a while. Check out the thread 'need help with nutritional recipes on the go' - Weezy posted a great recipe for a breakfast shake.

Banana's are good your starting really good on that.. also for the fruit bar you shouldnt eat anything with high sugar in the early mornings its really bad for you.. cheak the sugar on that also

Breakfast will set you up for the day .... I do alot of kayaking and outriggering , normally early mornings . 5.00am . If I havent eaten by a least 9.00am , I fade big time . I find a good bananan smoothie starts me of , with some bananan bread

HI Mordy,

from 5.00AM until 9.00AM, that's a long time without food - I would be starved by then too. And you are exercising in the morning on top of it. From what I heard, the first meal should be eaten, within an hour of getting up and then every two to four hours. I try to keep to that schedule (on weekends I am out of luck on that one) as close as possible, but it doesn't always work.

you have quite a few options depending on what your dietary plan/goals are ... here are some suggestions:
eggs
whole wheat bread w/ non-preservative peanut butter
yogurt
oatmeal
protein bar
protein shake

I like Ryvita Crackers, they taste like toast top with peanut butter for a fast one...egg whites mixed with veggies or cheese...microwave even...not bad.

I know its so easy...I buy the already made up egg whites...and had left over sausage and just diced up a few little pieces and put it in...you could go with anything pretty much!

some people can survive on a protein bar/shake in the morning, but it doesn't do much for holding me off till even my first snack.

yah I agree...I tend to have a protein bar for dinner after I've had the "good breakfast and lunch"...helps with portion control in my case.
