Wink Understand Your Geek

Morning,

While not as hilarious as the beloved Field Guide to Sysadmins, the following Inc Article, Understanding Geeks, is most amusing. I particularly like:

Geek Humor

Q: How many programmers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

A: None; it's a hardware problem.

Enjoy,

Barbara

Also, "known error" is so very true. I really hate when one of the lusers sends an email saying "why did this not work? I have never seen this before!" and I know that (1) others have found it, (2) an email went out to all of the affected users explaining the problem, and (3) he has specifically reported it before and received an individual response.

Lastly, I have a couple of my own definitions that fit in with this:
  • Geek: Someone who was born interested in technology and picks up on it naturally.
  • Nerd: Someone who has an interest in technology and studies extensively to learn about it.
  • Dweeb: Someone who thinks they are in the same class as a Geek or Nerd, but does not have the technological aptitude and/or intelligence.

:)

It's hard to be a true geek/nerd if you don't have a level 50 on some server.

Level 50 was the minimum cap of EQ, DaoC, EQ2 and a few other MMORPGs back in the day. I was trying to be inclusive!

I never really got into WoW. That's all relative though...by 'not getting into it' I mean I only had two level 60s.

I quit a few years back.
