I love this country, but if you haven't noticed, we're a fat and lazy nation. Achieving optimal health and fitness is extremely challenging. If it were easy, everyone would do it. Even with the help of a personal trainer, accountability lies on you to reach your goals.
Speed bumps occur, on the road to fitness, when you compare yourself to others. Just one-upping the next person isn't good enough. Reaching for a chocolate chip bagel in the break room is not a wise choice, just because most of your co-workers take donuts. The same rule applies to your workouts, don't just one-up, do what's right for you.
I agree with the others, it's not hard as long as you have the drive and determination in your heart. If you don't have it, and you're not fully committed, all those speed bumps come along and you'll probably fail over and over again.
The problem with this country and the obesity is that most people are plain and happy with who they are, and that's really not a problem to me.
The weight issue is only my concern for my body, I don't like to look down on those who are happy with what they are. I can't be that judgmental.
being healthy and fit doesn't have to be that difficult.
Depending on what kind of results you'll be happy with determines how difficult it will be. Regular people with families have daily challenges they must overcome to keep on track.
I really thing a lot of people do buy into the notion that it's hard - so they figure why should they bother...
trust me when I say I am probably the laziest person on the face of the earth - but being in the right mindset - losing weight and getting fitter (no where near fit yet)-- hasnt been difficult at all...
Having a professional come in and say - oh its hard -really does send the wrong message... If you think it's hard -find a way to make it so that it's not hard for people so they won't be discouraged before they even begin...
oh and I loooove me some donuts.. and beer

I think it's too complex an issue and different on a case by case basis.
For the most part though, in my experience, it's a matter of misunderstandings and piss poor prioritization of life.
Most people major in minor things. They get caught up in the day to day experiences that they make real important, when actually, in the long term, they’re not important at all.

Gosh, my purpose was quite the opposite of trying to discourage. It's weird that my post was taken in a bad way. I really want people to stay motivated, even when put in a situation that could go bad. I'm glad most of you find it so easy to stay on track.

Bonnie.... I mean this with all due respect.
I bet you'd be more accepted if you actually looked around the forum and respond to particular situations where people actually are looking for guidance.
To date, you've done nothing but start threads based on extremely generic advice that most, if not all our members already know and realize. If you took the time to see what this forum is aobut, you realize that, for the most part, this isn't a 101 level forum. We discuss the intracacies of weight loss with the best of them.
Personal training is a great concept if the *personal* part is held in equal light along side the training.
It's rare I speak on a personal level and I should probably PM this to you. But it seems a majority of people have responded negatively to your threads so far, so it's *sort of* related to the population. I also don't want this to be a me vs. you issue.

I'm glad it's not that hard for you.
It is hard for me. But just getting out of bed for me is difficult. I've been chronically ill for 7 years and I just barely get by everyday. But i'm not just aiming for being healthy. Being healthy doesn't mean your in the gym everyday and counting every calorie that goes into your mouth. Getting certain results is hard...but just being generally healthy isn't that difficult. You just need to know the right choices to make and I think that is where people are confused..or lazy. Or they just want what they want when they want it regardless of what it does to their body.
