Any suggestions of a good program that lets dummies like me build websites without knowing code and all that good stuff?

I was building my website with homestead, which was working out great. Until I realized they weren't compatible with vbulletin forums. Now I'm with hostgator and their sitebuilder sucks. Even though they copied all the data over from homestead, I can't edit or even copy the existing pages with their sitebuilder that transferred over. And with their builder, it's impossible to match the pages I did at homestead.

Someone told me certain programs allow you to edit and copy existing pages but I have zero experience. I've heard of dreamweaver. Any thoughts? Does it allow me to do the things I'm speaking of here?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

dreamweaver you kind of have to know what you're doing - least that's been my experience with it.

CoffeeCup - HTML Editor, Flash & Web Design Software - Is pretty easy to use... they have a lot of flash tools (insert shudder here) and a visual site designer that I think would be right up your alley... it's very WYSIWYG... buidl the page on your desktop (either mac or pc last i checked - then upload it to hostgator...

I heard that about dreamweaver too, that you have to know a thing or ten. Thanks for that link... I'll definitely be checking that out. I was so frustrated last night. The only fall back I have right now if I can't find something worthy is all my files are still at homestead and I'm still paying for it. That way, if need be, I can revert my site back to homestead, build the remainder of my site with it, and either transfer the new stuff to hostgator or keep everything at homestead except for the forum, which would obviously have to be on hostgator.

But hopefully something like this link will save me from keeping homestead.

Thanks

Awesome. The more links the better. I like to 'shop around.' But in a nutshell, if the program is basically point, click, drag, etc.... I'm in. It also has to allow me to import and edit my existing pages.

the fact that you can do this on either the mac or the pc - really opens the door of infinite possibilities -

your skills in doing this will increase - look how far you've come to date...

Give this a look. I'm all about the open source. I havent used this because I havent needed it but I always check out open source first. I have heard good things from people who should know.

Well this should certainly be enough to get me started.

Thanks a ton you guys... both of you have been so helpful to me. I don't know what I'd do without you.

And Liz (wishes). Shit, her calorie calculator is on my site, lol.

Hmm... A lot of people may disagree with this, but there's also Front Page if you're not looking to make a really fancy website.

You could also get a WordPress account, it's more of a blogging site, but you can add your own info. in to make it how you like. You can also add multiple pictures and links. Here are a couple of pretty different wordpress websites:

Mine: K e r a L i v e

Nashville Weather: Nashville WX

For Front Page you need to know a little code, but for wordpress all you need to figure out is how to navigate it (can be a little weird sometimes), plus in order to customize it you have to upload your own files.

Hope one of these help!!

the downside to front page (other than being mocked by people is that you almost end up getting locked into front page for the duration - especially if you pick any of their themes...

The thing is, I already have a lot of my site built so I sort of need an open platform. I didn't get the chance to check any of these links out yet but if all goes well, I'll be checking them out this weekend.

Thanks again.
