All,
I was woundering if any of you have any suggestions on how I can eliminate teh issue I'm having when sleeping. Often times when I wake you I've slept wrong on one side or the other, and my arms and hands are completly numb, and it takes a minute or two to get teh blood flowing properly after I sit up. I know this is due to my weight, but I dont think it can be all that healthy. I've tried sleeping in diferent positions, but one Im asleep it seems I roll onto my side.
Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

When you wake up with your arms numb it's usually from a nerve being pinched, not a lack of circulation. If you cut off your circulation, your arm would turn blue. Anyway, pillow-top mattresses are supposed to help with this. If you don't want a new mattress, most stores that sell bedding stuff will have pillow-top-ish things to put on your med that may help.

I'd also make sure that you've got the appropriate pillow for your sleeping habits... If you're side sleeper -you want a firmer pillow that does support your head and allows your body to stay in the right alignment... there are websites that help you pick out the right pillow and pillows are also labelled now for side sleepers and back sleepers, etc...

I actually have the same problem, plus I usually wake up with excrutiating back pain. A new mattress and mattress topper didn't help, and the problem with the pillows is that I sleep in pretty much every position at some point, and have been known to wake up with my feet at the head of the bed and things like that. My pillow is usually on the floor half way through the night.
I think it's really all down to the weight, and as much as I hate to admit it, the only real solution to that will probably be to lose weight....

I'm borderline underweight and I have occasionally woken up without any feeling in one of my arms. My blood pressure is lower than all of my friends as well. So I don't know if it is all weight or whatever. I think it's just the way I sleep on it. I think it's kinda cool. I like to play with my arm, floppin' it around and stuff.

Thanks for all the great info guys, I'm heading over to buy new pillows tomorrow, and also get a body pillow hopefully that will help. I had teh same issue even when we had the Temperpedic foam mattress but it wasnt as bad (I loved that mattress, but the wife hated it so out it went). MAkes more sense that it's just a pinched nerve rather than cutting circulation, and if thats it, then I feel a bit better about it.
I know losing the weight will cure this, so I'll get numb arm free eventually!

We have a pillow top and I use a soft pillow cause I sleep on my stomach. but i still wake up numb sometimes in the middle of the night. nothing like waking up wondering where your arm is cause you cant feel it!

I agree. I'm by no means overweight and it happens to me too. I also think it's kind of cool sometime haha.

left pinky and ring finger always asleep in the a.m.
not exactly the same thing...
But for the past several months my pinky and my ring finger on my left hand is asleep every morning when I wake up. Is that strange that it's just those two fingers and on the same hand?
Medical problem or just strange???

So I added a body pillow, and three king size pillows and sort of prop myself up on the at night now, and it seems to have helped quite a bit. I notice that when I do wake up with a dead arm or hand, I've usually slide off the pillows and Im laying on my side.
Pastelroses do you wear a ring on the ring finger? If so try taking it off at night and see if that helps a bit.

I had the same problem after a bike accident, and after a few weeks it turned out that I had pinched a nerve in my shoulder which caused the two fingers to go numb. Do you have any problems with your shoulder or arm or anything like that? Maybe you pinched something as well...just an idea.
