Rep Power: 33 | | That depends on a lot of things, how overweight you were, for how long, how old you are and so on.
The younger you are the more chances you have of getting rid of the stretchmarks, because the skin has more elasticity. You can try to help your skin along a little though, by losing the weight gradually and slowly, giving the skin time to adjust. I'm guessing that putting on lotion or some sort of body oil would help as well, but I don't know if there is any scientific proof for that. I just know it makes my own skin feel softer and a little less stretched if I put oil on and massage it in. Can't really go wrong with it I guess.
Other than that, I'm guessing it's pretty much down to mother nature.... |

Rep Power: 13 | | I have had my stretch marks fade a lot, but I don't know that there's anything you can do besides keeping your body hydrated. Just give them time, and keep your body at the same weight for awhile (after you lose your desired weight).

Rep Power: 72 | | | I hate to totall contradict San, but the truth is that stretch marks do not go away. They will fade over time and making sure that you drink lots of water and keep the skin moisturized will help. There is also some evidence that using vitamin e oil on them will help them fade faster. But once you damage the skin, it doesn't ever go away.
Sorry ... that's pretty much the truth. |

| | | I disagree, I had 3 stretch marks on both sides of my love handles/obliques, these were due to losing and gaining weight quickly over a few years.
In the last 2-3 months I've lost 2 1/2 on the left, so one is quite faded, and disappears and reappears, and one 1 1/2 on the right. Just Completely Gone.
There are different types of stretch marks I believe too. Birth Stretch Marks, Weight, ect I would also agree that it really depends on how long you've had them for. I guess everyone is different of course. All the best to you!

Sorry ... that's pretty much the truth. | It actually depends on how much damage has been done to the skin. Some stretchmarks can actually disappear completely, while others won't. I have seen women who had stretchmarks from pregnancy, and the marks completely disappeared only months after giving birth. Probably just a few lucky ones, but it is possible.
In general I agree though, most stretchmarks won't ever fully go away. But at age 16, the skin has a lot of elasticity and the amazing ability to regenerate well. So even if the marks won't disappear completely, they will most likely fade quickly and not even be noticable after a short amount of time.
Just treat your skin well, as people said, keep yourself hydrated, try lotions, vitamin e oil or something, and at your age, I'm pretty sure you won't notice them anymore after a while. |

It's not damage, it just has to do with the elasticity if your skin. |

| Well yeah. Skin is skin, whether it's stretched or scarred. It's going to look like SKIN under a microscope. That doesn't mean it isn't damaged.
A scar is skin - it's just damaged skin.
A stretchmark is also skin - it's just damaged skin.
Depending on the depth of the stretchmark, and the length of time you've had it, it could fade and become completely unnoticeable - much like some scars can. The younger you are, the more elastic your skin, etc., the more likely that will happen. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
