Rep Power: 0 | | | Severe constipation All of my life, I faced constipation.
Example; today I went to the bathroom after 5 days (last was thursday). You can't believe how I fill a bowel.
I thought that it was a slow metabolism...last month I walked 45 min. maybe 22-25 days and last week I also exercised daily 5-10 min at 155-180 beats per minute (I have a monitor). I feel better.... constipation still present.
My last month was also good nutritionally and I have an above average intake of fibers. I eat olive oil 2-3 times a week.
Medical exams (blood analysis) didn't reveal anything in 2003 and 2005.

Rep Power: 85 | | Are you drinking enough water?
Many of us here try to drink 1 fluid ounce for each 2 pounds of our weight.
People can get constipated if they do not drink enough water. |

Rep Power: 72 | | 6-8 drinks of what? And how large are those drinks?
The American Society of Sports Medicine recommends you use an estimated figure of 1/2 oz of water per pound of bodyweight. For someone like me who weighs 168, that means 84 oz of water per day - which is quite a bit more than 6-8 glasses.
Also what you're drinking is as important as how much. For some people caffeine can help fix constipation, but for some people caffeine can actually cause constipation. Is it possible that you're drinking things like coffee, tea, or soda that are making it worse?
In general I don't recommend fruit juice since juices are mostly wasted calories, but in your case, maybe drinking some prune juice each day would help? 8 oz of prune juice can be pretty darned effective in getting things moving along again when I'm feeling stopped up.
Other than that, how much fiber do you get each day and how much protein. I find when I'm getting a lot of protein 1g or more per pound of body weight, that can contribute, especially if I eat a lot of cheese (low fat or otherwise). I find when I eat a lot of protein, I have to make sure to drink even more water and to keep my fiber intake up.
Just a few thoughts on what has worked for me in the past. |

Egg consumption can block people up too... |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Ok... following try & observe, I went from 4-5 cups of coffee a day (out of 6-8 I mentioned) to 1. A big change in my life; I have been doing so since university - 20 years. I also bought a large 32oz plastic bottle and a water filter. I'll try it at least for one month. So far after a few days, no change.
I eat around 10 eggs a week (with no yellow), if nothing change I'll give it a try reducing this but this one will be more difficult ( I have breakfast at restaurant most of the time). |

Rep Power: 8 | | See how it goes with the changes. If it persists, it would be a good idea to see your doctor.
Some medications can cause constipation as an adverse effect; if you are taking any you could ask your pharmacist or doctor about it.
In addition, a blood test alone may not be enough to diagnose chronic constipation: a full medical history, physical (rectal) examination, and other tests (flexible sigmoidoscopy + barium enema, or a colonoscopy alone) may be required to rule out other conditions. However, in most cases there is no underlying cause and constipation responds well to adequate hydration, dietary fibre (15-25g/day), and exercise. It is important to report any signs of rectal bleeding and unexpected weight loss, and to try to avoid straining as it can lead to complications such as haemorrhoids.
Hope that helps. |

Rep Power: 0 | | It seems to be history now. Since last Friday, I have a meeting with the toilet everyday! What a change after 20yrs+. Not enough water to evacuate the bowels.... coffee is a diuretic. Lesson learned. |

Anyway, try prune juice. Tastes like death but it should do the trick. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
