Christmas time food for thought

Which economic system better implements the ideals of Christ's teaching: Capitolism or communism?

The parable of the 10 talents obviously shows that he believes that the guy who uses his money the wises should be rewarded for doing so, and this goes against what communism is all about at its core.

Ok, but what about this: Capitalism is fueled by greed (I can prove this if I need to), while Communism is about commonality and equal treatment of everyone. I mean I don't think there is a right answer, because honestly, I think Jesus could care less about economics. Just materialism is an evil that often goes overlooked in a capitolist system. Thats basically my only thought.

If Jesus really thought that way he would have told the guy who invested his talents to give alot of what he gained to the guy who just buried his. But no, he did the opposite, he pointed out how foolish it was.

There is more than enough evidence to show that communism is by far the greater evil. Hitler himself said communism was evil, so that's all I've got to know.

I hear alot of people with attitudes like this talk about communism, yet socialism is almost never brought up. Just curious as to why. Socialism is also based off of shared resources and the state owning everything, but there's an illusion of private ownership.

What is the book of Paul?

I am not a communist, but can't say what is inherently evil about it.

In real life instances (the rich young ruler) Jesus told people to give all their possessions away, while the story of the talents is a parable. It doesn't matter really, because again, my only thought is that materialism is a rampant evil that is overlooked by a capitalist society. We admire those with, and look down on the withouts. Talk of "keeping up with the Jones" and "who dies with the most toys wins" etc.

Communism, on paper, is a good system, but thats the end of it. It does enable laziness for sure. And it jsut doesn't work.

I have never owned anything material that has ever given me anything other than fleeting moments of happiness. Maybe during the Christmas season we should all just take a deep breath, and realize ever ugly sweater you get will rot just as fast as every really nice pair of pants you get will.

China is communist, yet there are rich chinese folks doing the same exact thing that you said. Communism does not totally prevent or fix materialism.

In real life it seems to be impossible to have a communist state without having a corrupt government who abuse their power and vastly ignore human rights by making their own people suffer. All of the greed and evil shifts over to the government, and the rest of the people suffer greatly.

Socialism kind of tries to be the best of both worlds. You get ownership by the government and they try to distribute things more equally, but they have elected officials and more power is in the hands of the people, so you don't get as many human rights violations and stuff like that. But, you still see situations where it's easy to get a free ride at the bottom of the ladder, yet the top performers are held back greatly.

But the problem is that Jesus would not have and did not teach a governmental financial setup like this. He taught that you should give and help because you WANT to, not because the government is MAKING you. HUGE difference. His teachings were about what's in an individual's heart, not what the laws of an entire country says.

Definitely agree about this. The evagelicals at their worst get together and cry about the government, when Jesus did everything he did with a way crappier government and way less freedom than we have today.

Yeah, basically it comes down to this: "I am the problem."

You can only change you.

Merry Christmas Corndogggy and everyone!

Its time for a cliche!

Jesus is the reason for the season...that and well, pie.
