It's nonfat, and the spices in it help burn fat! This is my own recipe, so please comment if you try it! CAUTION: This is HOT!!
Spicy White Soup With Sweet Potato
Serves: 6
2 Sweet Potatoes (Cut into chunks)
2 Chives (Chopped)
3 Cups of Water
2 Cups of Low-Sodium Vegetable Broth (I used homemade vegetable broth for this, but for those who have less time, really any kind of broth will work)
1 medium onion (Chopped)
1 cup of sliced mushrooms
1 lemon grass, cut anyway you like, or used whole for flavor
2 Hot Green Thai Peppers (can be substituted with other hot peppers, but try not to abridge this)
Juice of 1 lime
A teaspoon of lemon zest or juice of half a lemon
2 cups of Wild rice (optional)
Put all of these in a pot and boil for about 15 minutes, and you have a great nonfat meal!
Spices don't burn fat and carbs don't make you gain fat... it's all about stored energy (aka: calories). Use more calories than you eat in a day and you'll burn up the storage.
The recipe looks great, btw. I love spicy food, so I may have to try this one out.
Thanks, JDhd! I cooking is my passion, so I really hope you like it!
In biology class I learned that spicy foods increases your metabolism for a little while for small amounts of time, though. Maybe I heard wrong. Idk. :P

I think you're correct about the spices raising metabolism...but it's such a small amount that it's not going to cause an appreciable weight loss.
A tasty soup to start the meal is a great appetite suppresant though. But I really only like soup during cooler weather.
