Hi. I had a gastric balloon fitted on 23rd February 2008.I didn't know what to expect,I find it very diffuclt to find things to eat, which do not make me feel sickey, I would like to hear from anyone else with same problem, so far I have lost 10Ibs which makes me very happy. My start weight weight was 14st 8Ibs and my target is 9st 10Ibs or near as.
Regards to all.

I had one on 12 feb 08. I found cheese, rice anything acidic upset me. For the first few weeks we kept to crispbreads, eggs (will constipate you!)soups, yoghurts, toast and breakfast cereals. I have lost 16lbs since having it done. Please make sure you take the anti emetics for a good couple of weeks to keep the nausea at bay. I also changed my antacids from cimetadine to lansoprazole it is much more effective. Our diet is now normal but the portion sizes are very small. The weird thing is that I quite happily choose the healthy option as I just dont fancy sugar, chocolate or crisps anymore. I think your body insists good nutrition as you calorific intake is so low. Keep up the good and it will get better

gastric balloon

Hi Tina. Thanks for your reply. I have only tried egg once but it did not agree with me, at the moment I seem to be eating yogs, wheetabix, mashed potato ,today I had some tuna and mini cheddar biscuits which at the moment seem to be OK.My acidity is still quiet bad especially in the morning,I use omeprazole which was given to me by the clinic. So far I have lost 12Ibs which I am really pleased about! only another 3stone to go!!!! please keep in touch Tina as we both started about the same time Regards. Dumpling.xx

I had a major acid attack which I think the balloon actually fused to my stomach just under my ribs. I have taken the antacids twice a day and took a course of antibiotics eventually as the pain got so bad my dr was concerned an ulcer might be developing. I pyhsically shifted the balloon away from my ribs and didn't that feel better! We had to go out for a family meal to a chinese buffet this week. We both managed three quarters of soup bowl of favorite chinese peices and then collapsed, full to the brim like a pair of old porkers! My daughter is suicidal as she only lost a pound this week but she is very constipated ( another pleasant side effect!) so Im sure that will eventually resolve itself. We both belch a lot as well so its a good job I have work mates with sense of humours! If you manage a glass of milk in the morning it should help the acidity. Keep up the good work and we like you have both got a good 2-3 stone to shift as well. Im sure we are going to manage it as the balloon wont let us not.
xxxx Tina

Balloon advice to Julie

Hi Julie. Iam now in my 4th week with a balloon and am now feeling a lot better ,the first few days were very uncomfortable. I was very sick for 3 days and lost 6Ibs the next 2 weeks more windy and gripy, now I feel resonably myself . So far I have lost 1st but this has now slowed down,I have a heart problem so cannot do very much exercise, this is also why I went for the balloon, I do not remember anything about having the balloon inserted as I had a light seditive .I went to the Transform Clinic in London where are you going? if there is anything else I can help you with email me on 'pam.grove@ntlworld.com'
Cheers. dumpling xxx

Gastric Balloons

Hi Dumpling,
Just wanted to say thank you for answering my post on gastric balloons.I tried your e-mail address but it bounced back.
I am going in on Thursday to the Princess Grace Hospital in London. I am not nervous about the procedure, just about how I am going to feel afterwards. I have to eat out loads for my work and just not sure how I am going to manage in restaurants but I gues I will just have to see how it goes.
Any hints and tips on how to get through the first few days? Presumably, you didn't feel much like going to Sainsbury's for the first few days!!! - not sure what to stock up on!!! Water maybe!!!
What are you eating now?
Good luck with the weight loss - 1st down is brilliant - if I could do that in the first month, I would be delighted

gastric balloons.

Reply to Julie.
Hi Julie, nice to hear from you and I do hope that all goes well for you on the 13th April. I don't know what happened to the e-mail address but try again as follows,

pam.grove@ntlworld.com

I was panicking but once I got there things went quite quickly and I don't remember anything about the procedure at all!! Went home about an hour afterwards. be prepared to be quite sick - or I was! for about 3 days. Never thought I would feel better again - but I did but also had a lot of wind but the medicine they give you is very good and helps a lot.

Try the email again if you wish - would be glad to hear your experiences. All the best.
Cheers Dumpling. xxx

Hi Lesley
So glad to hear you have had your balloon fitted, not much fun is it? still it's all self inflicted,I found jelly and ice cream, yogurt as well as lemon lollies also cup a soup.I forgot about not having anything with skin on and fancied some grapes not a good idea. you will not feel like it but walking obout helps,I
now do not notice anything in my tummy unless I eat too much but am still feeling quiet hungry so have to be carefull,Hope to hear from soon and that you feel a bit better

all the best dumplingxx
