I'm going to have a gastric balloon fitted, and I've found a company called New-You in Prague who can do it all for £1950. I haven't found anyone else who's had a balloon done here, and I'm worried it might be... not a scam but that there might be "hidden extra costs" or something to that effect.
Where did you guys get your balloons fitted and (if you dont mind me asking) how much did it cost?
I had my balloon at New You in Prague ..........It is a no frills , cheap and cheerful alternative to the uk prices. You get no help ,no advice and no e-mails and no body is on the end of the phone if it goes wrong. You then have to go to your own G.P and get the meds.
DONT DO IT.
I am one of 3 who shared the same room at "new you" and kept in touch.....we all have different stories but one BIG thing in common.
WE LOST NO WEIGHT AT ALL.
Really please just eat sensibly and go walking or something SAVE YOUR CASH
I also went to New-You and don't recognise this description of the place or the level of care. In the UK you are discharged a couple of hours post procedure and left to get on with it although nausea and stomach cramps are listed as side effects. In Prague I was an inpatient for a further 36 hours to ensure I was OK. All my medicines were supplied post discharge and I was told to phone and request more when needed. My room was shared with one other person and was cleaned twice a day.....try and get that in the UK. All the staff were caring and efficient. All the pre-procedure tests were thorough, ECG,thyroid function, helicobacter all electrolytes and enzymes along with blood sugar and total cholesterol. These test results are given to you to give to your GP.The follow-up is by e mailing in food and exercise charts or a free phone number. I admit yes the follow up blood test has to be requested at your GP but that is all.
Included in the price was an overnight stay in a flat off Wenceslas square in central Prague. The price was £2450 which includes the flights and the removal of the balloon 6 months later
I went in October and am steadily losing 1lb a week which is fine by me. My reason for going was high blood pressure, high cholesterol and blood sugar creeping up to a dangerous level I was overweight with BMI 30 and have a family history of diabetes so could see where I was heading.
They will tell you that the balloon is an aid not a magic cure. It fills your stomach leaving less room for food but if you persist in eating the same amounts as before then your stomach will eventually stretch..Also do not eat after 7 at night or you won't sleep. I'm eating lots of soup, yoghurt fruit and not much meat as that seems to repeat on me for hours. Fish is OK also but any sort of fatty food is bad news also fizzy drinks of any kind. You have to work with it

the aftercare in prague was amazing. i discharged myself after 24 hours they wanted to keep me in for 48!! iv had enough of constant anti sickness drugs and water being pumped into me, i just wanted to get back to our 5* penthouse and be with my dad. i would definatley recommend prague beauty. the apartment waa gorgeous. the hospital was clean and accomodating and they'd seen it all before.
