I think you are sick continously in the firs 3 days then it gets easier. They may not let you have it why you are not that overweight i am a 16 going to Prague to have mine done in January.

Cool Confused

I have been thinking about having a gastric balloon for about 6 months. I have been ringing around to get prices and to find out what different services companies have to offer, but i feel confused, when asking about the balloon i feel they are really trying to push the gastric band. I am 5' 6'' and weigh 16 stone 10 lbs, does anyone know why they say i will be wasting my money?

Smile Hi 3 wks on

Hi reading all the threads ,just want to add my experience, had G.B. fitted now for 3 wks, lost 9lb in first wk.
4ib then 3ib this wk.

I was really tired and felt poorly, the return home on day of procedure more the local antisetic than the ballon but needed it would not have been reaxed enough, gaagged alot whilst having it done but must say i was very woozy.

Manged to drink all the suggested 10mls every hour and was actually only sick once.on the sat and Sunday am after drinking too much water.
I had fairly turbulent stomach like waves, not like monthly pains more like when your stomach turns and your going to be sick.
Stopped meds for sickness and cramps on 3rd day on advice from Nurse who phones every night for first 14 days.
Immediately cramps stopped and started to feel hungry.

Ate nothing till Tues am then did 3 light snacks, low fat yoghurt with probotics, milk shake/smoothie with added protein powder and vitamins.

Started to feel much more like it. Went back to work on the Monday but inhindsight you need ( or i did ) 4 days to recover.

Was doing really well till the following Monday when i ate a high fat meal.
the Indegestion was awful heartburnt, burps etc and a spoon of spicy relish was so painful refuxed all night ( meal was a small amount of pate, with 1/2 slice of bread and small portion of vegtarian mouska far too much fat ,cheese)
learning by mistakes.

Took a few days to recover, but avoid high fat.

Not got all my energy back yet which i miss more than anything so having a food supplemnt drink every evening now as can only manage a side plate of food am and late lunch.
Do not want to eat which is amazing, early days i know but fear keeping me from spicy and high fat and losing weight 16ibs has made a big difference got 3 1/2 stone to lose but may only lose 3 stones as i have a very small elfin face which may start to look very gaunt.

If i could of losed it by being sensible i would of but cant so after 13 years of being obese determined 2008 is last fat year.
N.O.C have been great we on this programm are signed over aftr 1st wk to nutrion team who see you wkly and work through all the modules looking at the past, feelings, fears, mirror work, what set you off eating and a plan of eating which is basically protein and vegtables, limited milk, fats and 4 ryvita, crisp breads for 6 wks cant even eat whats on plan.

also was advised to have a can of coke very night to clean the ballon, the surgeon who did the procedure may of told me but the pre op advcie warned about not having any and i thought it was same for all program so that helps a lot with gas build up and i feel cleaner now .
Sorry for long post but had a lot to say to newcomers .
Glo

really, really nervous

I am participating in a balloon clinical trial here in the US and I am terrified about the actual insertion procedure. I am really scared that I will gag or that all the stuff going down my throat will prevent breathing (yes, I do understand that it's my esophogus and not my trachea, but psychologically it's still a fear). I completely understand that I will likely feel sick for days after the procedure and I can do that, I am just really in need of some folks to tell me more about the actually insertion procedure and their experiences. A date for my procedure has not yet been set but will likely be early february.

Glasgow-Ghirl I read your blog, you go girl! Im glad you got rid of that guy, he sounded a right head case. I went out with a lot of assholes before I met my wonderful husband. I look back and wonder why did I put up with it? stay strong and dont take any crap from anyone. When you meet the right one he will treat you like a princess.

I had my balloon in last friday here in Canada, its not been easy but reading your blog I see you had the same. I was surprised you were allowed to eat stuff in the first week, Im only today allowed pureed foods so trying some tuna.

I wanted to ask you do you always feel like the balloon is there or is it only when youve eat badly? I just wonder as every now and then I feel back to normal and dont notice a thing, then it goes back to the waves of feeling the balloon. I wonder if its like that forever, the clinic says it wont be.

can you tell me how long exactly you've had the balloon and how much weight you have lost? I couldnt believe to read you were going and eating out at restaurants, right now I cant even imagine eating normally and keeping anything down! when did you completely feel normal?? thanks so much

Hiya
Thanks for reading my blog lol, Ive had the balloon in for 10 weeks and all in ive lost 25.5lbs. Ive only recently started eating out again and to be honest i really shouldnt. The problem im having is that i find it hard to make good choices with food hence why i got to over 19 st. Im eating out and then im feeling horrendous when I get home as my body cant cope with it. Im having to be firm with myself and actually starting afresh from 2moro got back to basics as when the balloon comes out I dont wanna end up at square one again.
I would say it was after a week where i was able to keep things down but then sometimes i still get sick, like the other day i was pucking up for no reason, hadnt eaten any forbidden foods just felt rotten.
Good luck with your weightloss and if i can help just give me a shout!

I know what you mean, i like to eat out too and so its been different this last week knowing what to eat. I do find myself just having a yoghurt drink or meal replacement drink as its easy.
hey do you feel uncomfortable in the mornings when you wake up? thats when I feel the balloon the most I find.
congrats on the 25 lbs, I hope I do that well!!
