Talking Newbie Gastric Ballooner - 5 days in!

Well just a quick post to say hello to everyone! i'm new here but have been reading these pages for a good month now so all ready feel I secretly know you all hehe.

I had my Gastric Balloon (named Belinda - as she is a B**ch) fitted last wednesday evening and so far it has been pretty horrendous except today so I can see light at the end of the tunnel! I've gone through the NOSC and had it fitted in Birmingham.

After checking in at 4:30 and the doc being late and not going down until 7 I was ready to go. Excited and nervous I was raring to go and merrily chatting to all the surgery staff and the doc -and I must point out they were all brilliant and kept me calm! So after not being able to put a needle in my hand and much proding and poking they finally got it sorted and so it began. I was supposed to be sedated but there was no way I was!! I felt everything and was wide awake. It was horrible at one point they were holding me back as I chocked and gagged on the pipes thinking I was never going to breathe again. If I could have ripped it out myself trust me I would have! And as soon as they were done I was wheeled into recovery and was wide awake and raring to go....so I'm sorry if that was sedation I must be one tough cookie haha!

Another mix up a few hours later as I was waiting to find out when I was going home but they had me down as an over nighter, I got dischared and went back home to start the real recovery. They'd given me so many meds I was fine.....untill they wore off! Suddenly a sleepless night followed by another 2 and I was beat. Constant throwing up every 2 hours for 3 days not keeping anything down and I was exhausted. So on Sunday I put a call into the doctor (good thing about the NOSC 24 hour helpline!) and he advised me to double up on my meds and try a glucose drink and.... it worked!

I'm now on day 5, i was supposed to be going into work today but just can not face it, the most I have managed is some jelly, sorbet and about 5 ritz crackers (which i had a craving for?!) so the idea of work nearly killed me. Im hoping to go back in on Wednesday. I'm still struggling with moving about but I must say the energy drinks etc are perking me up hence why I have actually been able to make it downstairs today and onto the computer.

So heres to another night with sleep - (fingers crossed) some more flat red bull to drink and I may even attempt scrambled egg tonight...watch this space!!!
