    Question Cough After Workout

    Sometimes after a really good workout I cough for a while. Why?

    do you smoke?

    Maybe COPD, bronchitis, asthma...

    something you might want to talk to your doc about.

    No. I don't smoke or have asthma. I just had a physical so I know I don't have anything as far as a cold or something. Allergies maybe?

    have your doc stress test you - he or she will put you on a treadmill and make evaluations from there. There is such a thing as stress or exercise induced asthma. Could lead to complications later or you might not be getting as good a workout as you could be - your muscles need oxygen and if you're not getting enough to feed them, you could get more tired quicker.

    happened to me when i first started running hard..it doesn't anymore..i think it may just be your lungs going into shock and trying to adjust haha

    Me too. I think my lungs were not used to strenuous activity, but it doesn't happen anymore.

    Could be any number of things. A lot of my friends in the city always got it, most of my friends in the country didn't. I think its just thinning out the mucus in your lungs and you're coughing out some of the accumulated pollution and crap.

    Either that, or they just go ta workout too, so they're just slightly raw, hence, you cough.

    It could just be your out of shape. It happens to me when I start working out again.
