But honestly I haven't had time to catch the stickies in each thread yet but I'm working on it. All semester my chem professor has made comments about us not reading our "text books" and I bet all the moderators feel like he does and want to beat their heads on the wall about the stickies, lol.

Rep Power: 558881 | | | I realize most aren't going to read the stickies. It's just a shame though b/c over the years, some seriously good topics have been discussed in a level of detail that is extremely deep, but also understandable. It's just what many people are looking for and they could possibly clear up a lot of their confusions and doubts.
Some people don't have the time though.
Most often it's the case that they feel entitled to individual attention and advice and are too lazy to invest the time to learning about this lifestyle.
There's much more important things to do like read a magazine, watch biggest loser, or whatever.
Not directed at you.
Just in general. |

Some forums you will get beaten severely (I'm nice compared to some places I spend time at) for not reading them or asking a question on a topic that's been discussed - Feel free to add a new voice to the discussion - but reading what's come before you is forum etiquette.
Most people wouldn't walk into a room and just start spouting off anything.. they'd kind of get the lay of the land first and that includes reading the forum rules.. .

Rep Power: 558881 | | That's why the rules at my forum are the way they are. And they're very clearly marked. And they will be referred to often. Quote:
We are very lenient with regards to what is posted on our forums. Minors are not permitted to join the community and thus we expect adults to behave accordingly. We understand this is a stretch for some so we’ve instituted a set of guidelines we expect all members to abide by. We hope this isn’t a problem. If you have any questions or concerns about these rules, please post them in this thread and they will be addressed in a timely fashion. 1. We hate spammers. We’re only interested in members who are here with genuine intent. This can range from people looking for advice and support even to other professionals interested in helping our members. If you’re here clearly to fatten your wallet it’s not going to fly.
The rule in relation to spammers is as follows: If you post a link for your product or website without approving it with an administrator or moderator first, it will be deleted and you will be warned. If you do it again, you will be banned. On top of this, we’ll probably give you a silly usertitle and try our best to make you look stupid and incompetent. 2. Be respectful. While we don’t mind the occasional use of profanity, we aren’t fucking interested in porn, discriminatory remarks or content. As hard as it is given the veil of anonymity the Internet provides, try your best to act as you would in any other public setting. If you’re of the loud, obnoxious and rude type by default… expect to be treated accordingly. 3. Try your best to respect people’s threads. Don’t hijack someone’s thread by taking it off topic. There is plenty of room on the forum for your own thread if you’re interested.
4. Do not post anything that could potentially generate legal trouble. If you post death threats, source of drugs or anything that could get you or the board in trouble, it will be handled appropriately. 5. We ask that all members read through the sticky threads located at the top of the various forums. They are stuck there for a reason; that being that they contain important, useful information relative to the forum they are found in that could answer your questions. We will try to help everyone as best we can but we expect the common courtesy from you to take the time to read these sticky threads. 6. Don’t double post. All questions will be answered as best we can. If a day or two pass with no response feel free to ‘bump’ your thread. Do not, however, post another thread asking the same question. 7. Disagreements and debate will certainly arise in this setting. They are inevitable. Please try your best to separate yourself from the information you are discussing. Simply because someone disagrees with a point of yours does not mean he or she is attacking you as an individual. Being forced to defend your beliefs will either 1) reinforce them or 2) create doubt, in which case you reassess and either go back to 1) or you learn something. If handled appropriately only good can come from it. We don’t tolerate crybabies and if one emerges he or she will be treated accordingly. 8. Related to #7, if you have a personal problem with someone please handle it in a personal manner. Private messaging is probably the best course of action in this event. 9. If you simply can’t tolerate another member’s posting, simply utilize the ignore feature. It isn’t difficult. Go into your settings and add the member’s username to the ignore list and PRESTO, you will not see their posts again. 10. If you put something in your signature that is excessively large or annoying, it will be removed at the discretion of the moderation team.
All members should report an abuse of the above guidelines to the moderation team so things can be handled appropriately.
We hope that this is not too much to ask.
Thanks for respecting our desires. If you have any questions or concerns pertaining to forum policy, please feel free to address them in this thread.

Rep Power: 93700 | | I completely understand about being irritated that some people won't take the time to look when they have it. Unfortunately I'm not one of those people right now but as soon as I get a break from work and school I plan on taking some time to read the rest. I've read alot already but just not in the "on topic" thread yet. It was really great of Tomo to take the time to link all that in one spot like that I'm sure there's alot of great info thats going to help me alot. Of course you both have already helped me immensely and if I haven't said it already, thank you. I don't remember which thread but when I started out some of the things you guys said to me helped me get past the dieting mentality and finally do something that is working
p.s. Hope you guys didn't take what I said earlier wrong. I really was sympathizing with how tired you guys must get of saying the same things.

Rep Power: 558881 | | | I personally don't mind saying the same thing. I just don't like answering questions like:
"what's the quickest way to lose weight?"
"so i just started on this journey, any pointers?"
"what kind of exercise is the best to burn fat?"
The list goes on and on. These are the kinds of questions that let me know that people didn't read the stickies.
I really don't have all that much of an issue with someone coming in here, not reading the stickies, and then asking something while providing a full picture of who they are and what they're trying that's not working. | |
