I haven't seen one post from you that advocates a BALANCED DIET, proper nutrition, proper exercise, etc. What you're telling people is misleading and unhelpful. |

Rep Power: 71 | | Ok, let's play your game. I went back and read the papers that were linked from the POM page. Here's what I read (bolding mine): Quote: |
Pomegranate juice may have antiatherosclerotic properties in mice and humans.1 It contains antioxidants such as soluble polyphenols, tannins, and anthocyanins2 and may decrease carotid artery intima-media thickness after 1 year in humans.3 However, the effects of pomegranate juice on ischemic coronary heart disease (CHD) are unknown. We evaluated the effects of daily consumption of pomegranate juice or a placebo for 3 months on myocardial perfusion in patients who had CHD and inducible ischemia as measured by single-photon emission computed tomography in a randomized double-blind study.
| MAY. Not is guaranteed. MAY.
From the second link: Quote: |
This randomized controlled pilot study of 19 patients (ages 65-75) is the first to show that pomegranate juice may reduce the amount of plaque in the arteries of patients with heavy plaque buildup (severe carotid artery stenosis) as well as substantially benefiting several important blood parameters. Ten patients consumed 8 oz. a day of POM Wonderful pomegranate juice for 1 year. Nine patients who did not consume pomegranate juice served as controls. The intima-media thickness (IMT) of the carotid artery wall was measured and blood samples were taken at the beginning of the study and at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. After 1 year, those patients who did not consume pomegranate juice showed a 9% increase in IMT, while those consuming juice showed a decrease in IMT of up to 30%. | Again ... MAY. Not does. And the amount of plaque removed was "up to 30%" not "have entirely unclogged badly clogged arteries in one year's time." as you said in your post.
There was nothing in any of the three links about "curing erectile dysfunction" as you said in your post.
Also, please note that all three studies referenced were small studies of fewer than 20 people - one of them of 9 people. Statistically speaking, that's a teeny-tiny number of people, verging on statistically insignificant. Also no studies were done on younger people.
So again ... could you provide actual documented sources for the claims you made in your post? I'll refresh your memory just in case you forgot. You said that pom juice could:
a - remove ALL plaque after a year
b - cure erectile dysfunction
c - heal you from many previously considered irreversible damages [perhaps you can be more specific here as well]
Thanks!

Also I think Diet Coke may be a reason why my blood pressure is up....
I'd do somthing so stupid-during and after my long distance walks, rather than have water, I'd suck down a few Diet Cokes... Diet coke actually dehydrates a person, which is why its easy to drinl one after another...
Im off diet cola for GOOD- What should I eat or drink now, to hopefully heal myself from whatever damage I may have caused? |
It has been a few years from this post. Have you noticed an improvement in your symptoms, specifically your lack of concentration, mild dyslexia, and high blood pressure? Have these symptoms reversed at all? I am very worried. I am 24 years old and have drank about 6 cans a day since I was like 7 years old. Today I was told I have high blood pressure. That seems abnormal for someone my age. I gave it up once for about 1 week but couldn't concentrate at work. I related that to lack of caffeine, and began drinking it again. I am worried this may be permanent. Please let me know if you have reversed any of this damage, and if you still remain "clean". |

JustinR, maybe if you tried slowly lessening the amount you drink instead of just quitting cold turkey? Or you could try replacing Diet Coke with something else caffeinated like black tea and then slowly reduce the amount of black tea you drink? Or...maybe you could ask a doctor or someone who has better info about caffeine withdrawal ^_^;;
Hope that helps a bit!
On a side note, my Gramma drinks too much Diet Coke. I used to drink it fairly often (couple a day) when I lived with her. But when I moved out I only drank it in rum and cokes ^^;; And now I drink it so rarely it tastes really disgusting...
It was way harder for me to give up sugar-y iced teas haha |

Rep Power: 3 | | I'm trying to do the same thing right now. Part of maintaining my 320 pounds was drinking up to a gallon of regular, full-sugar Coke almost every day. Ugh. I cut that out about two week ago. And I haven't had a soda or carbonated beverage of any kind since Monday. Just water, tea, milk, Crystal Light, etc. |

Rep Power: 0 | | | Water! Water, water, water! That's the ultimate liquid for the body! Our bodies are made up of 70% water and we all should be drinking 1/2 our weight in oz. every single day.
Did you know it takes 6-8 glasses of water to neutralize a can of soda in the body? And it takes 4 8 oz. glasses of water to neutralize a cup of coffee.
I recommend the book "I'm not sick, I'm thirsty"....great information about how important water is for us! |

Rep Power: 17 | | Um... neutralize the coffee or soda? Neutralize what, exactly? The caffeine?
Caffeine is a mild diuretic, but the amount in coffee or soda isn't so much that it makes you remove even as much water that's in the coffee or soda.
The whole "You need to drink water to make up for coffee" is a myth. Coffee Makes You Dehydrated: Say What? - DivineCaroline Quote: |
although caffeine, like water, is a mild diuresis (it increases excretion of urine), moderate caffeine consumption does not produce a “fluid-electrolyte imbalance” that can affect health or exercise performance. Furthermore, we retain roughly the same amount of fluid after drinking a caffeinated beverage as we do after drinking water.
| Snopes also debunks this one while tackling the whole 'you need 8 glasses of water a day' - snopes.com: Eight Glasses of Water a Day |

| Yeah, what Jeanette said - that's complete myth.
Caffeine is a diuretic, so you don't want to overdo it, but it won't make you dehydrated.
The American Sports Medicine Institute recommends that the average adult should try to consume about 1/2 their body weight in oz. For example, I weigh 167, so I should try to consume 84 oz of water over the course of the day. That's an estimate - some people need less and some people need more, but it's a good base to work from.
Water also comes from coffee, tea, soda, and even the foods you eat, so you have to take that into consideration as well. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
