Question Exercise machine graveyard

Morning,

Well! Today was my town's Large Item Dropoff day - a wondrous magical time in which you can throw out just about anything from your home.

We're in the middle of replacing our window shutters, and took this opportunity to decimate our garage and see what else we could get rid of. We're talking bunches of scrap wood, metal, rusted thingees, etc.etc.etc. I ended up packing a MommyMobile (suburban van) twice with all the materials we unearthed!

At the dropoff, I was watching what other people were bringing. Would you believe, I saw a Nordic Track casually heaved over the side? An Ab Roller? A 50 gallon fishtank? A Little Tikes Outdoors gym?

The type of stuff being thrown out was utter lunacy!

Generally, I always advertise my unwanted items at my local Freecycle . It's a great way to give back to the community (not to mention acquire goodies for your own family - I got several Taebo and Richard Simmons tapes this way).

The folks who ran the dropoff were so helpful that I went to Dunkin Donuts afterwards to bring them back coffee and 2 dozen donuts. I figure it must really be a thankless job!

Anywhos, I just found that lonesome Nordic Track a worthy story to share.

Enjoy,

Barbara

That is a lot of good stuff to be throwing out! I help with the local Freecycle here too and there is no reason to be dumping good stuff! Heck they could've taken stuff like that to Goodwill too!

I've lost all patience with Freecycle - between the greedy grubbies and the people incapable of saying thankyou to the people who say they will show u p because they so desperately what your crap and then never show up or the people who take your stuff and then try to resell it...- it's an exercise in sheer frustration and the assholishness of people.

It's nice that your town has a big trash day and people can dumpster dive the old fashioned way...

it's always amazing to me the crap that people buy - use it once or twice, then it becomes a clothing rack int he bedroom... in most cases it's an expensive clothing rack... as my nordick track exercise bike catches my eye -yeah that was a good purchase - hate the thing - and wished i never spent the money on it... but won't throw it out... yet anyhow -maybe next time i move...

Motivation is not something you find or lose, have or don't have. It is the product of how you see yourself in the world: active or passive, effective or ineffective, powerful or victimized, normal or pathological.

Freecycle can get hairy, I guess I don't have as many problems with my group because we are a smaller community...but I've heard the stories from other mods. It's ironic how people get twisted over free stuff.
