Rep Power: 217 | | a whole lot of reading there... and its an interesting experiment.. Quote: |
I am saying that exercise was the reason for my improvements and not the fact that I only ate McDonald’s food for 30 days. If you were to take exercise out of the equation, I would have gained 30 to 40 pounds of body fat, and I can not tell you how my cholesterol would have reacted; This is where education becomes very important.
| Excellent point that he makes... because I can see people running out and eating mcdonalds 3 times a day and expecting the same results Quote: |
Many people have asked me if it matters where their calories come from. At the most basic, eating exactly the number of calories that you burn and if you are only talking about weight, not fat loss, the answer is no -- a calorie is a calorie. A protein calorie is no different from a fat calorie -- they are simply units of energy. As long as you burn what you eat, you will maintain your weight; and as long as you burn more than you eat, you will lose weight. But if we're talking nutrition, it definitely matters where those calories originate. We will be posting information regarding nutrition soon.
| Im too tired to look, has he posted futher info regarding nutrition? it'd be interesting reading... |

Rep Power: 182 | | | Truthfully, I haven't read that in entirety for quite some time. I just dug it out for use in a debate I found myself in earlier today.
I don't remember any earth shattering info being posted though. |

I am in total agreement of the opinion that people need to be more responsible for themselves and be educated in everything, including where/how to eat.
I was surprised that he actually lost weight eating that much/that type of food, but as he stated, alot of that has to do with the exercise he did. Keep in mind that most Americans don't even get 1/2 the recommended exercise, and eat what he had, and more, on a regular basis.
I never saw the documentary, but did read "Supersize Me" and have rarely visited a chain fast food restaurant since. (When I do, its a salad that I order). The food isnt even an temptation anymore. |

Rep Power: 217 | | it's be interesting to know what his workouts really are - based on what he looks like -i'd imagine they're pretty intense... I don't think the average person would get the same calorie burn for their buck as he does... or i could be wrong that happens...
I think some peopel get a little too obsessive about clean eating, but avoiding processed foods isn't a bad thing... |

Rep Power: 182 | | He is genetically gifted and probably on drugs, lol.
n=1 is certainly not a good sample population.
That said, I have a friend who preps female physique competitors and these women are drinking beer and eating candy a couple of weeks out from competition.
Or take me for example. I can expose my abs while eating pretty much whatever the F I want after my calories and essentials are accounted for.
Certainly 'clean' foods are probably most beneficial for health.
But for fat loss..... meh, not so much IMO. People over-emphasize clean foods to the point that they trip over it. Ya know, it creates that whole mentality where, "oh, I had a hershey kiss.... my day is now ruined so I'll start eating 'clean' again tomorrow."
I really use it as a weapon along with other things of course against those who think 'clean' foods provide some form of magical benefit for fat loss. |

Rep Power: 20 | | | The McDonald's he goes to has way more food variety than the ones I've been in. Although the only ones I've been in lately are the ones you find off interstate exits, and they tend to have limited menus and high prices. California Cobb Salad? Oatmeal Raisin cookie? |

Rep Power: 8 | | Simply fascinating... I am a bit of a "clean food" junkie - I don't buy pre-packaged dinners anymore, which I often used when I was short 300 or so calories in a day. This makes it really tough at times, because sometimes I don't feel like cooking a nice chicken and vegetable dish to fill up my calorie needs - so instead I end up making a simple sandwich or something, and it's getting somewhat repititive, as I usually have some calories I can play with heading into evening.
