Rep Power: 10 | | Hypothyroid - Questions??? long story short - I went in for my yearly physical - bloodwork came back with low thyroid. Hearing the symptoms - all seems so obvious now. Wish I had of been tested a year ago!
a few questions.....
after starting on meds will a person really feel any different??
will weight loss be any easier???
I guess I'm just wondering - how did you feel before vs. after being diagnosed and starting meds??? |

Rep Power: 0 | | Hi, to answer your question, chances are you won't "feel" any different. If your thyroid is 100% your real problem, then theoretically the meds would balance you out and would help you to lose weight. Unfortunately, it is a little more complicated than that funshine.
Your thyroid is one of your metabolism controllers. Your muscles are another. The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism and the more energy you will have.
What is your exercise regimen?

Rep Power: 7 | | I imagine it would change the way you feel... eg since fatigue and depression are among the symptoms of hypothyroidism, with treatment I think it is reasonable to expect that you would have more energy and perhaps feel happier. I'm a medical student, I don't have much clinical experience yet, but I was under the impression that the treatment is very effective and that patients do report weight loss and sometimes quite drastic improvements in their general well being.

Rep Power: 10 | | Since the holidays I hadn't been back into a set routine with working out until the past 2 weeks. I have been going to the gym every day after work (5days/wk) and doing cardio for an hour.
I'm gonna stick to the same routine after I start my meds and see if there is a difference in the amount I lose. Ultimately it won't really matter - regardless it's gonna be a lot of work.
I'm not just assuming that this is the """""miracle""""" to solve my weight problems. I do realize that there are many other things included that affect a persons weight.
I'm just praying that if anything - once I start my meds - my energy level will increase. I am always sooooo tired! It really is a battle to push myself to go to the gym rather than going home and putting my pj's on and falling alseep by 7pm.
Just wanted to get others experience - thanks for the input those that have answered. |

Rep Power: 0 | | I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism over 6 months ago, I felt awful, my hair was falling out, I had pins and needles, weight gain, brain fog, depression etc, it's taken this long to get my thyroid under control, but for me the weightloss has been slow, the doctor was even surprised that I wasn't losing weight. I have felt somewhat better, but not what I was told would happen.
I guess it just takes longer for some people to recover, good luck. |

Rep Power: 6 | | | hypothyroid rookie I just got out of the hospital on Tuesday with a hypothyroidism diagnosis. My body finally crashed. I would love to know how some of you have been doing since your posts. My white blood cells are still attacking my muscles making me cramp everytime I try to use them. Muscle enzymes are at 1400. I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea and put on cpap.
I have not been on here for quite some time, just trying to push through my life. I have gained back all the weight I had worked so hard to lose. At least now I know why I feel like I have been swimming upstream. They tell me it will take awhile to get my body back on track. Curious as to whether or not you saw differences right away and if not, how long. |

Rep Power: 7 | | It took me like 2 months after starting my Synthroid to notice a difference with my energy. My doctor told me that a lot of people think that just because they take the medication, they're just going to lose all the weight they gained back and it's not true. It's definitely not. Since I got my energy back I decided to get up and start exercising everyday and start eating right.
Your thyroid is a really important part of how your body works. Now that you're on medication, it might take a few weeks, but you'll notice you have more energy. And what you do with that new energy is completely up to you. |

Rep Power: 6 | | | I am still having such muscle cramps, it is hard to just get through normal activity much less exercise. Everytime I use a muscle it goes into a spasm. Still incredibly swollen. I take a water pill in the morning then swell back up again all afternoon. I am soooo over all this mess. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Rate This Thread | Linear Mode | |
