Body fat???

HI! In my attempt to lose weight, I want to concentrate more on body fat percentage than pounds. I went to different sites to calculate my body fat percentages. I'm 5"4 and about 155 pounds. I took the measurements, and it says my body fat percentage is at about 35, which does not surprise me. NOW. The problem I have is that I gained all this weight in the past two years. Out of curiosity, I entered the weight and measurements I had two years ago, and it said my body fat was about 32%!!!!!I've tried this on many sites, and it says the same everywhere!!!! Two years ago, I was 5"4 too (heheheheh), but 120 pounds with a 26 inch waist, 35 inch hips, and I WAS NOT FAT AT ALL!!! They say over 31% of body fat is obese, and 27-31 is acceptable but a bit overweight. What am I supposed to think????I find this very discouraging. I'm a curvy woman, and I did 10 years of competitive synchronized swimming. My thighs, arms and butt will always be big and strong and I have no problem with that. Could that be the problem in that percentage calculation? And if it is, should I just forget about that body fat thing and concentrate on fitting into the clothes I used to wear instead? The scale really depresses me, and I refuse to use it as a measure of my progress.

No calculator is going to give you near an accurate reading.

Hell, even the hands on stuff like bioelectrical impedance and calipers have rather larger error rates.

I'd focus more on maintaining your strength while you lose and tracking your inches. This will give you more accurate a measure as to 'what' you're losing.
