Help

Hey everyone, i have been dieting on and off for a couple years and am well below a high of around 340 from two falls ago and have revolved between 270 and 290 for nearly a year, gaining and losting ten to fifteen pounds three of four times. My problems have been both motivational, which i realine only i can cure, and also diet.

When i was 340 it was easy to cut out all real fatty foods and my daily diet consisted of a light breakfast of a piece of fruit or otameal, a lunch of a south beach diet wrap meal, and a low carb wrap with chicken and some cheddar cheese for dinner. Snacks were usually low calorie, low fat, low sugar yogurts. I was not specifically following any low carb or low fat diet, just cut out most of both in an effort to lose weight. It was easy and the weight fell off pretty quick.

My problem the last few months (after getting back down in the low 270s after hitting 290 after th hoildays) has been diet. not so much wanting to diet, but finding things to eat that i like. My biggest problem is i am extremely fussy. I actually really hate the flavor of chicken, so traditionally i have covered that up with sauces or cheeses etc. I cannot astomach a single bite of fish. This is why i got to be overweightr in the first place, i am a hamburger and french fry kind of guy. the only vegetables i enjoy are cucumbers and the occasional salad.

Anyway, i want to know if any of you have similar issues and perhaps some advice. i had a history of eating the same basic things five or six days a week and im just ultra burned out on it and need help. In the past ive switched to a bowl of low sodium low fat turkey noodle soup for lunch and also occasionally a footlong ham and turkey sub from subway.

I have been considering trying to start eating a lot of lean cuisine or smart ones meals, but am not sure about the nutritional values of said meals, but have had some of them in the past and enjoy them for the most part.

HELP

Just curious as to how old you are?

Doesn't sound like you're committing to a lifestyle change but seeing this as a short term diet... All that processed food your eating isn't good for you in the long run..

I'd say a lot of your food issues are probably in your head rather than in your taste buds...
you've got a bunch of red flags

What about turkey or pork tenderloin, or dark meat chicken -what's your objection to the taste? was it cooking preparation that's the prolbem?

I'm pretty sure you've not tried all varieties of fish -so be a little experimental

Nope you got to be overweight by eating toomany calories... there's no reason why you can't have burgers or lean beef - or french fries =- it's all about portion control

again - there are proboably veggies you haven't tried or cooking preprations methods that haven't been used -so youdon't know that.

Open your mind a little to different foods - you might find something you enjoy

My point here was not to get treated like i was 12 by someone with so much status on the board.

[QUOTE=maleficent;436703]Just curious as to how old you are?

I am 27, not 16 so try to cut on the lecture a touch

[QUOTE=maleficent;436703]Doesn't sound like you're committing to a lifestyle change but seeing this as a short term diet... All that processed food your eating isn't good for you in the long run..

the change in my lifestyle has been evident to everyone around me. food used to be the only happiness in my life and it no longer is. however, cutting out processed food altogether is an impossibility for me. I am a single man that works 13 hours a day 10 months a year and simply cannot spend half my sanity time at home cooking. However, i do throw a half dozen chicken breasts on the foreman every weekend and freeze them for meals during the week frequently, this is something tha ti have instituted in the last couple months. However, i dont really enjoy it in the slightest.

You are not my psychotherapist, and my food issues have existed since i was 4. we all have foods we dont like, i just have more than most.

[QUOTE=maleficent;436703]What about turkey or pork tenderloin, or dark meat chicken -what's your objection to the taste? was it cooking preparation that's the prolbem?

The only cooking preparation for chicken i can enjoy is courtesy colonel sanders. I can eat dark meat much better than white, but it is so much worse for you. tenderloin is delicious but difficult to prepare and expensive

[QUOTE=maleficent;436703]I'm pretty sure you've not tried all varieties of fish -so be a little experimental

My father is chef at a place in ocean city, md called harrisons harbor watch, which specializes in fish, ive tried anything you can imagine, and the only things i like are the ones that are ultra expensive and not nearly as good for you, ie shark steaks.

[QUOTE=maleficent;436703]Nope you got to be overweight by eating toomany calories... there's no reason why you can't have burgers or lean beef - or french fries =- it's all about portion control
And the too many calories i ate were in burgers and fries, why be so critical.

Again, ive tried it all.

The point is i was hoping for some new suggestions on foods, not psychoanalysis

my status on this board is about as relavant to my ability to spell... People who are fussy eaters tend to be very very young.. it's a valid question... as people get older -they know what they like and what they don't - so the pickiness is a non-issue.

since you've tried it all- what new suggestions are there for you?

People's tastes change over time -just because you didn't like something when you were 4 - doesn't mean you don't like it now...

Pork tenderloin is fairly inexpensive.. as there's little waste on it -and prepation is really just broiling it - or stir fry, or grilling - not a lot of challenge there...

Since your father is a chef - talk to him about healthier and different preparations of foods that you do like..

A big portion of weight loss - especially for those who have more than 20lbs or so to lose -is getting your mindset in the right place.. otherwise being successful long term is a challenge..
