Question How do I stop thinking about food?

One of my MAIN MAIN MAIN issues about gaining weight, is the fact that I THINK about food.. constantly.

Even as I'm typing this now.. I'm thinking about that soup that I wanna get in my fridge and eat, even though I know I just ate probably half a can of pringles in the last hour. ......

It's driving me INSANE!

How do I stop thinking about food? I mean... how can I just think about food when my stomach is actually growling? lol...

I think if I can get past that, I can probably lose weight easier. I eat at an uneccessary times... when I know I really shouldn't.

Does anyone have any tips on conquering this problem? The only one I can think of is to yell at yourself "OMG HAVE SOME SELF CONTROL!!!!!!" but that usually doesn't work and I end up raiding the fridge. :P

One of my good friends who did end up losing a ton of weight (probably around 50-60 lbs), told me to keep saying "Nothing feels as good as being thin." but... eh.. I don't really wanna be thin, I just want to be healthy. So. Hm. lol.

choose not too. Its your choice, your mind & body is something you control, you tell it what to do. Not the other way around. Think of it as a willfull or disobediant child.
You CAN eat all day and still loose weight, just stick to veges, carrots or whatever you prefer to much on.
Personally i spend much of my day eating pumpkin, i probably have been eating a half to a whole pumpkin a day. filling and yum. Some days i prefer other things, but most days its pumpkin.

You might want to look at what you're eating and see why you're so hungry

How many calories a day are you taking in?
Are you getting protein and enough fiber at each meal to help keep you full?

Are you getting enough nutrition (pringles don't have a big nutritional punch)

really look at what you're eatin and how much

I have the same problem some days. Probably not the best solution, but I tend to stay away from home as much as possible, that way it is much easier to stay away from food. When I'm out, I care enough not to get fast food, but at home I have a problem with eating too much, even if it's low calorie or sugar free stuff. I know how you feel though, I still think about food a lot and I have been "dieting" for the past year. At first it was incredibly difficult to make those healthy decisions, but after the first couple months it became much easier. Hang in there!

I think about food and eating a large portion of the day too. I find that having something low cal to keep my mouth busy helps. I suck on sunflower seeds or pistachios until I've gotten all the salt out, then I proceed to the nut. And thankfully I do love a lot of low cal, healthy foods. I'm a vegetable lover and popcorn makes me happy.

Keeping busy helps lot too. Distracting your mind by keeping yourself busy (physically or mentally) doesn't leave time to think about food.

I'm right with you... thinking about food is one of my biggest enemies.

I find I do it out of boredom. I try to keep myself busy. Exercise is always a boredom buster! Now I just have to take my own advice!

Hi

I know the feeling...a little too well, which is why i ended up at my highest weight of 248lbs. I love to eat, i love to cook and i adore massive portions! None of this is wise, or helpful in the quest for healthy weight though! You really do have to focus on what is more important - the soup in the fridge or enjoying more years in your healthier, less troublesome body? If the answer is the soup then eat it - if not then dont! Someone posted on another thread 3 qestions that you should ask yourself before eating something that might damage your goals

1) What will this do for my body?
2) Do i really want to eat this?
3) Do i need to eat the whole thing?

Eventually, if you have to repeat the tedious process of questioning every choice, you might get sick of thinking abt food!! (well thats the theory!)

Good luck!

Chances are you are bored and have notihng to do. Keep yourself occupied, get out of the house. Also, stomach growling has nothing to do with hunger =D

Remember that all nuts, though good for you, have a ton of calories in them. Popcorn is great though.

A typical day for me is something like this at the moment.
Breakfast:
half cup steak (since i dont work in oz and gms will screw with your head)
1 cup of pumpkin
1 cup of brussels sprouts or carrots or something

Lunch pretty similar only different meats/veges

Dinner is again the same only with 1 cup meat and varied vegetables.

Snacks during the day are banana (i find them more filling than other fruits) and apples and whatever fruit is in season.
often ill have a muesli bar (100 calorie) just before bed becuse i cant sleep on an empty stomach
Im finding i get better results not eating breads or processed foods, less cravings, and feeling 100% better for it and more clear headed without. I do miss them though, and will return to eating them once i get to my goal weight

Oh yeah, and ill have 2-3 coffees (trim milk & without sugar) a day, usually 2, 3 is if something special is happening or im at a friends place.
