delicious alternatives to guilty pleasures

one of the most frustrating thing about a diet is having to cut all those delicious, calorie packed meals we love.

the truth is there are some very tasty substitutes to those dishes and you can fulfill your craving without falling off the wagon!

these are some I can come up with:

cheese pie

I simply LOVE pie. Especially cheese pie topped with delicious cherries or strawberries.
But I am no fool and I know that slice contains the calories of a whole meal and not the good kind of fat and sugar.

What I do when I am craving one is:

that I take a slice of whole grain, low calorie bread (around 40 cal the slice) I spread a thin layer of low fat cream cheese and I top it with fresh strawberries. (strawberry jelly with splenda works as well)

It satisfies me, it tastes delicious and it takes the guilt away!

Another guilty pleasure is pizza.. .

What I do instead of binging on a couple of calorie packed slices of pizza is that I buy whole grain pita bread (small, the size of a medium palm) I add fresh slices of tomato and a little bit of fresh basil, and I substitute the greasy cheese in pizza for low calorie, fresh versions like low fat ricotta or low fat mozzarella. Of course I add only a couple of slices
Then you can add fresh mushrooms, onions etc- even chicken or tuna.

heavenly burger

When I really want a burger, I grill a chicken breast- no fat while cooking and add some spices. You could even add a bit or barbeque sauce. Then I top it with low fat cheese and veggies- salad, mushrooms, onions. You could put it on top of a slice of whole grain bread or not- depends on you. But it is delicious!

=) I love asian food, especially sweet and sour chicken!

what I do is bake the chicken after coating it with flour and curry powder and egg white.. then use sweetener, some ketchup, chopped tomatoes and green peppers to make the dish!

burgers: I substitue the meat for veal which has same calories as chicken breast and add tofu; tons of spices and simply grill them.

also any low fat subsitutes, and divide the portions before so I dont take too much: ice cream, chocolate spread, egg custard, etc..
